Thai National Staying In Thailand From Other Country

Featured Replies

This is a puzzling question and the dilema is:

If a Thai national who is also a holder of an Australian passport and citizen leaves Aus on her Aus passport then when she enters Thailand she only gets the standard 28 day Visa which means she has to either get a 3 month or 12 month Visa from Aus.

If she enters Thailand on her Thai passport she can stay permenantly but if she wants to go back to Aus then she has to leave Thailand on her Thai passport and she needs to have a Visa to leave even though she is an Aus Citizen, so how can a Thai person enter and stay for as long as she likes and leave Thailand and go back to Aus without a Visa ?

Simple, by using both passports at checkin at the airline. This confirms that no visa is necesarry for either country.

At immigraiton you simply produce the passport of the country in question, in essence you leave and re-enter Australia on the Australian passprot and enter and leave Thailand on the Thai passport.

This is done every day, so both airline and immigration are familiar with it. But normally immigration doesn't need to see both passports, only the airline,

That's it to a tee, we do it again next month. Thai passport for the Thai immigration and OZ pasport for the OZ immigration. 2 passports for the ticket counter. Jim

I would have thought that when leaving Thailand on a Thai passport Immigration would expect to see a Visa for the Thai person in her Thai passport

That is not their concern.

It is the ariline that is required to check that you meet the entry requirements (visa) for the country that you travel too and they can be fined, next to having you transporting back to point of origin, for failing to do so.

Immigration doesn't know or care where you are going to, only that you are leaving. You could be going to a country with a visa on arrivel for Thais. Don't think they even look at the tickets. Jim.
