Hi All,

Im planning to go to Thailand to get married to my girlfriend of 1 year, after getting married I want to arrange a visa to bring my new wife home.

I will be able to provide bank statements and some payslips allthough my work has been somewhat sporadic due to visits to Thailand, at the time of application I will be able to prove I have over £150k in the bank due to house sale but my statements previously will show an over draft of £5k with money coming in from lodgers and salery but I am worried the bank statements with a large overdraft will harm our application. I am planning to rent a place for us to live in the UK before I go to Thailand and should be able to get a letter from an employee detailing a job offer, start date and salery.

I have been supporting my fiance finanialy as she is not working and can provide some evidence of this.

Will the fact that just before the visa application my bank account was overdrawn (with money coming in) be a problem if I can show I have the £150k in the bank to support us.

Proving our relationship is not an issue as I have lots of evidence to support this.

Regards

D

Overdrafts are not a problem; provided they are approved and being serviced to the bank's satisfaction.

Obviously all finances available will be taken into account; not just what you have in your current account.

You may find UK settlement visa basics helpful.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a friend who has recently married in LoS and wants to take his wife back to the UK for a 6 month visit whilst they have a house built here.

Could someone please give an indication of the 'normal' approximate timeframe to obtain such a visa.

The time frame from application submission to receiving your documents back is 5/10 working days as a guide.

Thanks - sorry to be dim, is that the time taken to actually receive the approved visa ?

How do you mean? these are working days so say you handed it in Tuesday morning your are likely to get it back week Tuesday (5 working days later). worst case would be two weeks later on the Tuesday. Settlement visas (in line with the thread) have a more variable time frame, around 10-12 weeks judging by the thread that is running. Not only does it depend on the complexity of the applicant and sponsor but also on the amount of applicants they have. For a visit visa it is notably simpler.
