Hi everyone;

I have been on a work visa since Sept, but suddenly it is being cancelled (had no notice from work, which was nice).

So, I am a freelancer and I want to stay in the country. What are my options? I think I need to sort something out pretty soon, as my work visa is being cancelled 'immediately'.

Can you include details of what visa I need (maybe student, double entry etc), whether I need the country and where I can get them, please? I'm finding it all awfully confusing.

My main requirements are to stay in the country as long as possible (ideally on a multiple entry visa). Thai school sounds like a good plan, as my Thai is pretty sketchy at the moment. Just trying to find out what my options are so I can take action ASAP.

Thank you!

It depnds if you are on an extension of stay from immirgaiton based on your work or are on a 90 day visa entry. The last remains valid, but if on an extension of stay you need to leave the country within 24 hours of your contract being cancelled. (You cna get an extra 7 days from immirgaiton for 1,900 baht).

You would need a letter for the labur office to cancel your work permit and letter from immirgaiton to cancel your permission to stay. If there is no valid reason for your contract being terminated, you might be entitled to severence pay. The labour office can help you with that, they are on your side and will even go to court on your behalf if need be.

An ED-visa is fine, but you are not allowed to work on an Ed-visa. For an Ed-visa you need to contact a school and sign up with them to get the correct paperwork with which you cna apply for an ED-visa in a neighbouring country.
