Hi

We are heading to Thailand in April for a period of 14 days, These days will be during the New year holiday period where Government offices will be Closed.

My wife is planning on getting her passport changed into My surname and are worried that we may not have the time to get the new passport back.

We are planning on applying for her new Passport ubon Ratchathani while visiting her Parents, would 5 days be enough to get the new passport back? and would it be quicker or take longer if we applied in Bangkok?

Regarding her Spouse Visa, I take it that she just shows her old Cancelled passport showing the Visa and that she will not have any issues going through Passport control.

Any help would be Great.

Typically takes 3 days to get a Thai passport.....Mrs Soutpeel renewed hers during the floods and even with all that going only took 5 days in BKK.....if you have a time constraint maybe better to do in BKK

And you are correct about the visa, simply show both old and new passports when required; the visa is not canceled just because the passport it's stuck into has expired or been canceled.

However, to avoid possible confusion, especially when checking in with the airline, I'd recommend she carries your marriage certificate and, if you married in Thailand, an English translation.

Here's the UKBA link to transferring a visa to new passport: http://www.ukba.home...sa-to-passport/

However,it is specifically stated, "You do not need to transfer your visa or residence permit to your new passport".

If one decides to transfer visa/residence permit to new passport, there's a fee involved--no surprises there!! By post £216 and in person £648!! Wonder why they don't put the NTL(no time limit) stamp when they issue ILR/residence permit, very well knowing that every passport is valid for a given period only.
