Where Can I Extend My 30 Day Visa-Exempt Stamp?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been reading up on rules for extending a visa-exempt stamp for 7 days, but am struggling to find out where exactly I am able to do this. I'm presuming the Chaengwattana immigration office will sort it for me, but I was really hoping there was another one nearer central bangkok (I'm thinking BTS/MRT). When I was in school here, we used to go to the immigration office at soi Suan Phu, though from what I've read on the official site it seems to now only offer services for nationals of Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos.

As for what I would need to bring, I've read that a ticket leaving Thailand within the intended extension period is needed. I had originally planned on doing a run overnight somewhere to get a 60 day visa, but as they don't come with a ticket I presume telling the immigration officer that I promise won't quite cut it. I've applied for MUIC and am currently waiting for acceptances to go out (which will still be a while, hence me wanting to get the 60 day visa), I don't know whether that will influence my need to provide proof of a ticket out. i.e are they more likely to be lenient towards an individual who should soon be receiving a student visa.

Also as a side note, I *may* be able to make it to the office on the day my stamp expires, but chances are it will be the day after. Can I simply pay the fine there (thb500) and then get the extension? Or will the fact that I have overstayed by 1 day be the nail in the coffin for application for an extension, and I'll be told to go to the airport and politely bugger off until I get a visa overseas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

As you said Suan Plu is now only for nationals of neighbouring countries. You will have to go to Cheang Wattana.

What you will need is your passport, the fee of 1,900 baht, a pass photo and a copy of your ticket out to show you will be leaving within 7 days. The ticket out is not always asked for, but can't tell you what they will do if they ask for it and you can't show one.

The overstay will be charged and they will probably give you the extension if you come a day later, but with also not having a ticket out I would really apply on your last day of permission to stay and not make it more complicated than it is.
