MOSCOW, RUSSIA (BNO NEWS) -- Russian search engine Yandex on Tuesday announced that it has reached an agreement with the social networking website Twitter that will allow Yandex to show new tweets in its search results in real-time.

Yandex, which is the largest search engine in Russia, said it has received a license to use the full feed of all publicly posted messages on Twitter. "People share news, exchange opinions and discuss all sorts of matters in real time all the time," said Anton Pavlov, Yandex's Blog Search Manager. "This kind of information will help us enhance our search results."

Twitter, which says it surpassed more than 100 million active users last year, has become an increasingly important source of real-time information such as breaking news. Its users post approximately 250 million messages a day on average, or about 2,900 tweets per second.

"With more than 250 million tweets a day, Twitter is a valuable information source and the fastest way to find out what's happening in your world," said April Underwood, Twitter Director of Business Development. "Through this partnership, Yandex and Twitter will work together to make it easier for Yandex users in Russia and elsewhere to find real-time content about the people and things they care about most."

Pavlov said Yandex is currently concentrating on expanding its social networking search. As a result of the partnership with Twitter, Yandex users who use Blog Search will be able to find the latest tweets in real-time. The same results are also available on Twitter's search engine.

Twitter and Yandex gave no financial details of their agreement, but the social networking website has a similar agreement with Microsoft search engine Bing. Online publication All Things Digital previously claimed that Twitter wants about $30 million per year for its exhaustive real-time stream.

According to Alexa.com, Yandex.ru reaches an estimated 2.87 percent of global internet users, most of them in Russia where it is more popular than Google. Bing reaches about 3.42 percent of global internet users while Google reaches 47.7 percent, down from 49.25 percent late last year.
