Expat-Centric Tv Show In Thailand

Though I'm sure I'll get a deluge of smart a$$ answers for this... as an expat with or without business interests in Thailand, what kind of content would you want to see on an English-language TV show in Thailand. (a news, informative style show) From reading the forums, it seems initially that a non-partisan, non-biased show about the goings-on in Thailand would be of interest. (This is just a wish list, most ideas would be rejected by the powers that be I'm sure) Don't worry if they have zero chance of becoming true... like my previous example. Just doing a survey to an upcoming project and want opinions. If it ever comes to light, I want this show to have some benefit to all the expats living in Thailand.

Why dont we get our pensions upgraded ,why cant we access a doctor free in the UK after paying in for all those years ,yet immegrants can go there get benifits ,a house and free treatment on the nhs.

excellent, another thread goes the way of the UK pension.

There are a multitude of nationalites here i am sure could not care less.

How about a pensions forum to spare the rest of us this endless deluge of protesting pensioners?

Oh the ubiquitous immigrent [sic] complaint is always a welcome addition too.

How about:

Sin Sot as a topic or one how to Wai properly.....you can bring farangs on the show who are at one with their Thainess and we can have a jerry springer type show, where they try and outdo each other, hopefully resulting in a punch up

Hows about an agony aunt type segment.... "I met a Thai girl on my two week holiday...do you think she loves me ?"

Somchai Springer would be the host then?

Some great things would be:

  • Restaurant reviews
  • Human interest stories
  • 'Farang' interpretation/translation of news events (purely subjective)
  • Reviews of interesting places in Thailand
  • Hotel/resort reviews/reports
  • Useful 'farang' product finds/locations (special sauces etc)

But I'm just dreaming........ biggrin.png

Such a beast exists ... Pattaya People

My obversation from their web page (I'm not in Thailand so can't view it live) topics are ...

  • Obituary Norman Denning 19**-2012
  • Third Meeting Of Local Administration Levels
  • A Father’s Love Brings Disaster -
  • ACTOR FROM “FOOLS” LIVE ON STAGE
  • Charity Boxing Tournament of Banglamung District -
  • Man Dies by Falling From High Bed -
  • A Red Light Means STOP!

But my personal favourite ... Graduation Party for Policemen

Unfortunately, that's the commercial reality, as depressing as it is, of a commercial station.

... but if you want reality TV at it best, pick a headline from any of the subjects over at Crimes against thaivisa members

SC catch up pls

How about an exposé type thing…..In the UK there is one called ‘Cowboy builder’…Could follow up with all the cons and scams going on, Camera in the face, sort of thing, Best find some seasoned war reporters for this one.

If it were to be a regular series (weekly), how about a segment about the upcoming changes in visa rules as would affect expats? Maybe guests from the immigration department on to explain why things are the way they are, etc.

Maybe throw in a few cautionary tales of the guy who got married then had his wife sell out all his property etc while on a visa run. A little name and shame wouldn't be inappropriate in my opinion. Who knows, someone might actually learn something.

If anything, if more officials on the lawmaking end of things became aware of how these things are happening something positive (for the expats) may come of it.

Sick Buffalo Rescue - it could focus on all those wonderful stories that we read about on TV - good and bad, hit-the-fan.gif

That is it!!!!

Interview with a guy.

Than a spy made some videos what his tirak is really doing all the time.

Than again an interview, with maybe some humor: "Did you know that your girlfriend had 327 other men while you transfered money every month?".

Inviting her as well (for some $$$ she'll come) and ask her how he was in bed in compare to the other 327?

I think that would be good laughs for us old cynics....

What about a Krypton Factor type of show or Its a Knockout type of thing.

The farrang devils are given various scenarios to work through over an assault course.

Examples would be a "visa" course where he starts with getting all his paperwork ready as per Thai Immigration site and then they start moving hurdles around making the course more difficult as he trys to make his way around. They could do things like pulling rules right out of thin air but don,t tell the contestant.

He has 10 minutes to complete the course or he can use his "Joker". This allows him to put a special money token into a box and then he wins......... or not.

this game can be used on so many levels and themes like, buying land, getting married, getting a work permit or my personal favorite, getting permanent residence. It could go on and on for years. Thinks of the advertising revenue.

And best of all, the Thais would find it hillarious. intheclub.gif

One would expect if a show like this was done in Thailand one would need flak jackets, bullet proof vests and an armed escort for the camera crew, and obviously we would see an increase in reporters committing "suicide" in Thailand

How boring...I like the concept of "Somchai Springer" better.....just think about some of the topics:

"your Thai wife is bargirl and you didnt know it"......have the wives come in and confess to a live studio audience and their husdands that in reality that they are not Hi-So thai Chinese with double doctorates, the husbands thought they were

Could also do a segment on how much money the Thai wives have ripped off from their husbands to pay for medical treatment of sick relatives and buffalo's

and finally

"I married a Katoy, and didnt know it"

The possibilities in Thailand are endless and would make very entertaining TV
