jibberjabberjibberjabber
I am looking to sell a watch or two from my collection (Rolex, IWC). These are genuine with box and papers that I bought from the store myself i.e. not the Patpong version! Any clues on stores that deal in genuine 2nd hands that I may be able to sell them on to here in Bangkok? I know of the place in MBK but wondered if there were any other suggestions. Gone
Of course you know you won't get near what they are worth selling them here. You would be better puting them on ebay. Maybe even craigslist or bahtsold.com
jibberjabberjibberjabber
Thanks for the tips. I figured buyers would be wary of anything like that sold online from Thailand (I know I would have been back home) so figured selling to a dealer here would be a decent option. I got a pretty sweet deal when i bought new and for the IWC in particular I am optimistic I should be able to sell it for pretty much what I paid... got a strong case of buyers remorse! RussellBellagrego
I am a buyer of Rolex, specific models and other luxury interesting time pieces. I live in Isaan and come down frequently to Bangkok and pattaya. Give me your models, date of purchase, date of last service on Rolex and the serial numbers. A high definition photo will help. I will make an offer based on that info. ] Russell
starship
There is a shop on the road that leads to Pantip Plaza from sukhumvit, about half way down on the right hand side. I forget the name but my gf has told me before this is where hi-so Thai's go to change watches. Not sure if they only do exchange or buy as well but worth a check. The shop is very high end with specialist watches. Also gf has told me there is a shop in Paradise Mall on Srinakarin that buy's expensive watches. Also MBK of course. There are shops all over Bangkok buying and selling high end watches really, but i would have thought my first recommendation would be worth trying initially from my observation of it. Good luck. jibberjabberjibberjabber
Russell - Just sent you a PM Starship - Thanks very much for the tips but re your first suggestion, which road do you mean exactly? Pantip is on Petchaburi which is parrallel to Sukhumvit so I guess it depends which direction you are coming from.

MEL1
Thanks for the tips. I figured buyers would be wary of anything like that sold online from Thailand (I know I would have been back home) so figured selling to a dealer here would be a decent option. I got a pretty sweet deal when i bought new and for the IWC in particular I am optimistic I should be able to sell it for pretty much what I paid... got a strong case of buyers remorse! 3 years ago I had both a Rolex and an Omega Constellation to sell, both bought at Paragon official dealers. There is nowhere in Thailand where you will sell them for any near their potential worth, and you'd even be lucky to get 50%. Take them home and sell them abroad, with the boxes and paperwork of course, and you'll more likely get 70-75% original value, as I did. -mel. For the shop in Paradise Mall google 9Naliga or PM me for his details. For the shop on Phetchaburi google Leng Watch Group. They are quite well know I believe. technologybytes
I sold a couple of Rolex and a Omega from my collection a couple of years ago on eBay UK, I did say I was in Thailand and I shipped them by UPS so they arrived in 2-3 days. If you include proper photos and make it clear that they are genuine I don't see that the fact you are in Thailand should make any difference to a USA or UK buyer so long as you are shipping by trackable courier. I have bought Rolex, Omega, Tudor and other watches from sellers in Hong Kong, India, Singapore and even China, the problem (from a buyers perspective) with buying waches from Asia is often the staps are very short due to Asians having slim wrists and the links for some models can be very expensive. With eBay and Paypal the buyer should not be taking any real risk anyway, if it's not as described the buyer should be able to claim a refund. jibberjabberjibberjabber
Thanks very much for the hints and tips. I will give the local stores a go and if I don't like the price I will stick 'em on ebay.
keemapoot
Another option: I've now sold off my collection of high end watches and the last two I auctioned using Antiquorum Auctioneers. I live in Thailand, but got the watches to their Hong Kong office and they then sent them to one of their worldwide auctions. They are perhaps the premier collector watch auctioneers. I got a very good price. I tried ebay for a high end Cartier and no luck.
starship
Sorry. Got my bearings slightly off, not in BKK at present. Just checked on map. Get off at BTS Ratchatewi, turn right and walk down Petchaburi road. It's on the right hand side about half way down before you get to Pantip.
bangkokburning
What model IWC do you have? Aqua 3568/2?? I have an highly sought after Omega 2250.50 I am looking to part with, move up the food chain. Won't touch Rolex. Boring, too many fakes. You can try Zeetan in Malaysia or shops in Singapore/HKG
bangkokburning
I don't think anyone will touch them online as you are in Thailand but there is always timezone.com

RAZZELL
Last time we were in Bkk we were in MBK and the Mrs asked a watch dealer how much he'd give her for her Rolex. Her watch is £7k+ list in the UK and is less than a year old, he offered something like £3.6k. Funny, but he had exactly the same watch for sale (with a different colour face) for £6.5k.... jibberjabberjibberjabber
Thanks all. I am aware this isn't a sales forum but as a few people have asked it is an almost new IWC Portuguese 7-day SS, black dial that I am looking to sell. it is beautiful but I never found it suit my wrist and I tend to stick to my GMT II and Speedmaster. Grail watch is a PP world time but mid term is a JLC World Geo - would consider the latter for swap if anyone is keen.
bangkokburning
IWC are some of my faves, but the Portuguese I am not a big fan of, just prefer tool watches to dress watches. As I recall they are not fetching huge prices either - about US1350-1750 on TZ (?). The JLC sounds lovely and pricey, again - I am big on tool watches but this is a real stunner. Good luck, I think you will find buyers in SIN or HKG sure. I would not bother with BKK honestly, get them to Zeetan or a store in SIN for trade. Baring that, back to your home country and post on timezone.com.

norrona
word of warning if you choose the ebay route, a colleague of mine just had problems with scams on there where they buy the item, pay by paypal and you send the item, then about a week or so later they send back a parcel that needs to be signed for that is supposed to be your item returned but it has nothing of any worth in there... the fact that you signed it means they have a paper trail and proof they were not satisfied, paypal sides with the buyer, refund their money and deducts it from your account.... if you do a google search theres plenty of info on it just a word of caution not scare mongering

lazygourmet
To the OP: Don't sell it... pawn it From time to time, if I need quick cash, I put a three decades old oyster perpetual for a month at a local pawnshop: and I receive much more money (nearly double) than its cost when bought.
