bryanlunadelacruz
I have 2 friends coming over next week for a 5 day stay in Bangkok and they prefer to stay somewhere along Khaosan road. I am not really familiar with the place and guest house over that place. I would really appreciate some help from you guys. Thanks. Bryan
aarn
People recommended Central GH to me. Said to be full of eccentric travellers
craigt3365
I think you'll get some better replies over in the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forum. Plus, try tripadvisor.com for reviews. Next week is Songkran. Better make reservations. It'll be packed and CRAZY.
ivan96822
http://khaosanhotels.com/ Looks like there are plenty of options...
madmitch
Check Hostelworld or Hostelbookers. They are not just dorms. Read the reviews. Plenty of choice but book early for Songkran
asanee
avoid Central-and also the ''new'' central. Highly doubt if that TA has any reviews (fake or real) on those low-budget digs. The really cheap ones dont do reservations, they cannot handly that stress nor the smart guys to do the webbookings-just walk along and choose. KSR gets really extremely wet those days-but most people tend to call the whole wide area around (at fault) just KSR. Google for khaosanroad, khaosanroaders or travelfish for info aimed at tha group-and praise yourself lucky that the usual bunch of KSR-haters has not yet appeared here. garrya
There are only cheap guest houses over there. Better to go there, walk in and see the room yourself. Some are extremely tiny, some are ok. There are always vacant rooms. The place can be very noisy too.
bangkokburning
GHs are some secrets that are rarely divulged by me, esp on boards. I have one emergency GH near KSR, but you ain't getting that - sorry. Emg for getting stuck at Sai Tai Mai. Anyway - I would very much recommend you not stay on KSR. It is a very poor value. Add to this you are not centrally located so any venture out of here by taxi you are adding to your daily costs. It is great though for Southern Bus Terminal. Oh BTW - Airport bus no longer runs here so yet another reason not to stay here. All the food is of very poor quality, double or triple priced (as is the beer) and is nothing close to Thai food. BTS/Airport link is B60-70 drive away. Thievery and sour attitudes endemic. NEVER TAKE A STANDING TAXI on KSR! Having told you all this - they will stay there anyway. TT is your best option for a name - BUT it may ave been XX months since that person stayed there and could be all run down by now anyway. Here is a hint though - "behind the wat" is a 12 year old secret. behind the wat is as if not more developed as KSR itself! BUT...if you can locate the old New World Bldg and go up the street toward the fort, there are a few low key GHs. Also, if you go across the bridge and start hitting some of the small sois you can find other better value, quieter digs. For B500 (400) should get you a clean a/c room with hot water. No TV, no fridge. Edited April 5, 2012 by bangkokburning
Razzler1973
Head over the bridge into Samsen Road, some nice little places down there or just go Nakorn Pink in Soi 6 or the nearby Suksawadi for reasonable Chinese-run type places. Phra-Arthit has some nicer places that you may pay a bit more for
