I've been reading about 90 day reporting here and there. Does it mean that every 90 days I have to report where I live? I've been in Thailand almost 14 months now and had not known that I should have done this (if I should have), so does this mean that I have been acting illegally?

If so, what do I do? Do I report my address to the police, say 'Sorry, I didn't realise until now that I should have told you' and hope they won't clap me in irons?

Only applies if you're here for more than 90 days at a time. As you're not ('cos you run every 90 days) you don't have to, your TM card that you fill in is classed as a report.

However your landlord I think should let Imm (I think) know you live there.

Hi Fixit.

What is your visa status here, non-o, non-b, non-o/a ? Do you have an extension of stay or are you leaving the kingdom every 90 days?

With this info. we can be more assistance.

In a similar vein, I'm a non-b, single entry holder. Does my 90-day reporting start from the time of:

1) my last 1-year extension (obtained on 30 Sept. 2005).*

or

2) from the the last time I left and re-entered Thailand? (24 May 2005)

*Is this non-b extension also classed as a report of location/address?

Start time was 24 May 2005. An extension of stay is not supposed to count as an address report although at least one office seems to consider it as a report recently from accounts (at least if it is the first extension).

The only forms that have been considered a report in the past are the TM.6 (arrival card) and the TM.47 (address report form).

I would visit immigration this week and hope for the best.

You are too late to do via registered mail with either date. Suspect you will have it returned with a notice to appear in person; unless you have a lot of New Year's luck on your side.

Ugh, not a bright prospect (appearing in person). Then they'll remember your criminal face for ever and ever, amen. Cursed for all future visa renewal attempts.

I took another tack--I bundled it with the 15 other farang professors at the university who are sending theirs in under the cover letter and envelope of the official university stationery, hoping mine will "slide in unnoticed" with the others.

Wish me that New Year's luck you mentioned!

Well it really isn't a capital offence yet and only draws a 2,000 baht fine. Do not believe your face would have been remembered as one of them or one of those by people handling.

He is a multi entry visa user so does not have to worry about the 90 day reporting.

Lopburi3,

I am confused. I hold a Non-Immigrant, Type "O", Retirement Visa with a Multiple Entry Permit, and am currently in my second year, having renewed both (visa and MEP) a few months ago. I normally come and go from the LOS before a 90-day period has elapsed, so I "stamp in" via my arrival cards at BKK Airport and the 90-day clock then starts all over. Question: if I do not have a trip outside of Thailand within a 90-day period, must I still report to Immigration with a TM 47? Or does my visa and MEP mean that I can avoid this 90-day reporting process?

The other question is: can a fellow with an O-A visa avoid having to report every 90-days and simply renew his visa annually? Thanks very much.

Answer to question 1: Yes

Answer to question 2: No

The bottom line is that whatever type of visa you hold, if you remain in the country continuously for more than ninety days you are required, as an alien, to register your presence with a Thai Immigration office, either personally, through a third party or by mail.

The penalty for not complying is not merely a financial one, but also getting yourself on the wrong side of Thai Immigration, which, if you intend to renew a visa or apply for a new one in the future, isn't a terribly good idea.

As said the answer is Yes/No but that "permit" is called a multiple "re-entry permit" to keep us all talking from the same book. :o
