Where To Buy A Cheap Time Piece/Watch In Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Ipod got toasted during Songkran, I used it for, among other things, keeping time. I have a visa run coming up so am need of a cheap watch or something to keep the time so I don't miss the bus. Does anyone know where I could go to buy one?

Thank you.

It's hard to believe that you've been here long enough to need to do a visa run and not yet come into contact with a Big C, Tesco or any one of the countless places that sell cheap watches. If you can't find one, you could always buy a cheap phone.

Now where could you go to find one of those....?

haha, sorry if my question was terribly stupid, but I definitely can live with blinders on and can miss the obvious (the positive of this is I have a talent for finding obscure, beautiful places ). The only places I have shopped are Tops and 7/11, and could not find anything at either (I did find hangers at Tops!), so did not want to waste a full day wandering blindly around. I have not been to Tesco or Big C, thank you for mentioning those places, will head there soon.

Or if you are on the internet (and you obviously are) check out Google calendar.

I've used it since they rolled it out; sends SMS and email reminders for any kind of event. Free of charge.

Google Google calendar- you'll find it.

If one is Google averse...go buy a cheap plastic watch.

You can get cheap watches at the night bazaar. You will have to work on them to get thr price down,

For myself I would just buy a cheap phone,

I was in Pantip the other day looking at one for about 850 baht. She assured me I could leave a message as well as receive a message. But when I asked her about call forwarding she had no idea but it told the time.

I was in Bangkok in 1989 and the phone lines were awful so we got got one of those "pocket" phones and a wheelbarrow to move it around.Only trouble was everybody else went for them at the same time ans it was almost impossible to make a call as the lines were crammed. TIT jap.gif

I had one of those, before I "upgraded" to a NEC 9A...

Night Bazaar sounds like a good idea, I will try that first, as Big C is a 90 minute walk, and Tesco about the same. (I try to walk everywhere, but have used a red truck twice so far).

"Or if you are on the internet (and you obviously are) check out Google calendar." On the visa run I won't be carrying my laptop, and I don't have a cell, so a cheapo watch will be best.

You walk slowly. I guess you live at Veerachai Court or something else Thapae-ish. From there it's a 30 minute walk to Tesco:

And you mentioned that you've been at Tops. Most Tops branches that I know of have a Mother of a shopping mall on top of them, with several places selling watches.

Or take one of the passing Yellow songthaews on their way to Hang Dong; they all pass the other Tesco on the Hang Dong road.

Also there are dedicated watch shops on Thapae Road. You must have walked past them. Two next to each other, here:

I hope that answers the question.

Thanks Winnie, I looked on my map and saw the Tesco on Hang Dong, and I know it took me over an hour to walk to immigration. The one you linked to is much closer, like you said, about 30 minutes. Time to start walking....
