limbos
Hear from various people and noticed myself by overtaking cars/buses twice that there must a shortcut on the 44 from Surat direction Krabi. The shortcut is direction Phuket/Phang Nga. Anybody any insight in where this shortcut is at, coming from Surat. Thnx
sketcher
There is a short cut, turning off the 44 onto the old road rather than going to the end of the 44. If you go to google maps and get directions from Samui to Phuket it comes up with the route showing the shortcut.
Riley'sLife
The 44 has numerous roadworks bridge repairs and contra-flows in effect at the moment. It's usually a safe and fast route but travel times are extended at the moment. Maybe at the southern end before you hit the 4 you could cut across country and use the old 4034 to arrive Ao Luek, but only if you are not going to Krabi of course. Birdman
It could be easily missed on the way to Phuket, well signed the other way on the 4 only, but not afterward . Going to Phuket: 44 turn right to 4035 until Plai Phraya, then to the right to Khao Khen, left on 415 to 4. Driving quick is often not possible, but the landscape on the Khao Khen road is fantastic. Thanks Birdman, although driving quick may not be an option, it must be faster than going all the way to the beginning/end at the Southern end of the 44, since i overtook a Phuket-Samui bound bus on the 4 and than overtook the same bus again at the 44 northbound. Your description looks exactly like what I found on a map. Will try this next time.
