Visit Visa For Thai Wife.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

One thing I was wondering is if a travel itinery has to be confirmed before applying for a visit visa (family visitor visa) for my Thai wife?

I have heard yes and no but it seems silly to me to pay for tickets when the visa is not guarnateed to be granted.

Any other advice or nuggets of wisdom about this process would be appreciated.

(We have been togeather for 8 yrs and have had a joint bank account for many of those years but she has never visited the UK before)

You are quite correct, don't buy tickets before the visa is issued. You enter the proposed travel dates on the visa application.

Everyone will tell you that "Reason to return to Thailand" very important.

If you want specific information or help, just ask.

It actually states on the UKBA website not to book flights before the visa is issued

Also please state the country to which your question pertains in the TOPIC title, it helps get better and more accurate answers.

Never buy before the Visa is confirmed, as a negative application could be more costly than expected.

Make sure you have concrete reasons to return, this is the major stumbling block for many.

Good luck

Do you live together in Thailand?

Who are you visiting?

I went on line and looked at proposed flights for hopeful dates of travel and printed them off to show flights no, dates and prices just to add to my application.

Can't seem it hurt.

Reason to return in her case is simply to not bugger up future applications which I read somewhere is acceptable as long as the relationships legitimy is not in doubt which it shouldn't be as we have been togeather for 8 years and living togeather the whole time until recently and we show that through joint bank account and photos etc.

I'm a bit unsure of what you are applying for?

Do you live in Thailand and are you trying to get a Family visit visa for your wife to go to the UK with you to visit your family?

Or do you now live in the UK and she is coming to visit you?

Joint bank accounts and photo's will certainly help to demonstrate the relationship, however, I would suggest that just " simply to not bugger up future applications" in itself would not constitute a strong enough reason to return. You will need to show more tangible evidence, eg land, property etc., particularly for your first visa application. Any previous visa's which she has had, and adhered to, would be useful.

From previous experience, I do point out to any applicant not to assume that the ECO will think logically and draw positive conclusions from any evidence you submit. Draw their attention to the positive conclusions you want.
