vagabond48
Due to an accident, I have a partial tear of the meniscus and PCL (ligament) so it looks like I will require knee surgery. I know Dr. Chanakarn has been mention here a number of times and so I saw him twice recently. I asked him questions about my injury but did not ask him how many of these surgeries he has performed over the recent months. Although he appears to be easy going, I was concerned as a Thai that he might lose face if asked. How many of you have or know of people that have used Dr. Chanakarn for knee surgery and what was the outcome? I need to make a decision pretty soon. Thanks for any feedback. cm das
He cleaned up a partial meniscus tear for me 4 months ago. He did a friend's as well the same day. From my conversations with him & from what I've seen on the forum he seems to do these kinds of surgeries regularly. And I wouldn't worry about the face thing so much with him. He's always answered my questions honestly, even when the answer is "I don't know" or "It's hard to say". Oh, and my knee is feeling good now. I am back to running & martial arts practice at about 90% strength & have only slight twinges of pain. This is much better than my recovery from similar surgery 12 years ago in the US. hellodolly
I saw a specialist about my hip foot and Knee. He said there was nothing he could do for my foot and explained why which was more than the Canadian Doctors who had all ready operated on me told me. I had had arthroscopic surgery done on my knee 12 years ago and it worked fine. He looked at it and told me that he no longer did that surgery as he was to old to maintain the steadiness and recommended Doctor Chanakarn Whom he said he had trained. uptheos
No one attends more knee and hip courses in the states (Mayo Clinic I believe) than Chanakarn, not that means a lot, but at least he keeps updated with the latest procedures and I hear he is a bit of a whiz with an arthroscope. He also goes to various countries giving lectures. Ask him how many he's done he's a nice guy and will tell you. Whether or not the numbers with be manipulated or not who knows? Big plus he drives a BMW owned by his father not one of the poncy Benz which ladies drive. Edited June 25, 2012 by uptheos
jimmym40
There was a post by me and several others about Dr. Chanakarn. My wife underwent two total knee replacements by him. One on 29 Nov last year, and the other two months later, 29 Jan 2012. We both say he's terrific. Two other doctors/hospitals refused to operate on my wife's knees. Various reasons. But it the end, he had his internal medicine guy check out my wife and said it was a good to go. If it wasn't for my wife's knee replacements, she would be in a wheel chair the rest of her life. Anyway, Dr. Chanakarn is not Thai, he's Indian. I've asked him many questions and he's not offended or shy one bit about giving a straight answer. He's very personal to. We talked about his other work at the University, his lectures, his family, etc. Very pleasant individual. Don't be afraid to pick his brain and just ask what you want to know. Good Luck. Jobo
Where does one find this Dr Chanakarn? Had knee surgery last year for a cracked and dislocated patella and it's just not right after 15 months. Need an opinion on the lack of progress in recovery.

hellodolly
This from the pinned topic above. Dr Chanakarn Phornphutkul Rajavet Hospital 053 204545 He also has a clinic. I would suggest calling for an appointment. When you walk out of the Hospital you will be looking at the Holiday Inn. Turn right cross the bridge to the T in the road turn right and a couple of hindered feet (60 meters) down on your right hand side is his clinic. I had heard he is there after 5:30 PM. cm das
You don't need an appointment to see Dr. Chanakarn at his clinic but you might want to call ahead to make sure he's in town. He often travels with Thai national team athletes to various competitions.

You would think an orthopedic surgeon could fix a couple of hindered feet.
