Ram has been a good option but wondering if there's any specific recommendations for doctors there or other locations around Chiang Mai.

CM has an excellent Psychiatrical hospital, the director there comes highly recommended.

Location of the hopital is at the outer moat, not too far from Chinag Mai gate.

If you go to SriPat you can get an appointment with Dr Jumlong who is the head of SuanPrung. He speaks english. A long appointment about 50 minutes cost a friend 500baht,

The location is across the street from the moat on the south side of the south west corner of the moat.

If you are unsure of directions just remember the old city surrounded by the moat is East of the Ping "River.

It was my understanding that they had two English speaking one's there.

So many facets of sound mental health are cultural that I really wonder if a psychiatrist from one culture can be sensitive enough to the needs of a patient from another. I'm sure that they can prescribe needed medication to help a patient calm down enough to begin to sort out problems, but can they be the soundboard needed by the patient to reflect the information.

(I'm thinking right now of the Japanese 'need' for group inclusion vs the American 'need' for individuality. Things along this sort of cultural imperative.)

So, can you provide the OP with the name of a psychiatrist or not, as this is what he requests.

No, I can't. But perhaps if we knew his cultural background we might be able to find him a retired ex-pat psychologist or clinical social worker that would be willing to help out. Just having a degree in a particular field doesn't mean that this makes the best match when dealing with health issues. The patient needs to be able to 'relate' to their care-giver in order for the treatment to be effective.

Dr. Chumlong sounds like a good option. I think the Thai docs are well versed in the standard treatments/talking points, etc. But I'm sure the cultural background would be a factor esp with therapy.
