Nice Restaurants. Any Recommendations

Hi,

I'm in Pattaya with my wife and kids on our yearly holiday to visit my dad.

When we're here we like to go out for a romatic meal without the ankle biters and have been out for some top quality meals at prices that are unbelievably good value when compared to similar meals back in Blighty.

Meals that have stood out so far were at the Casa Pascal and The Bay at the Dusit (fantasic setting and views).

We're looking for recommendations on where to go next and would appreciate any comments on the following: The Balcony, Symphony (Mata Hari), Siam Elephant, Brunos or any others that are worth visiting.

Cheers,

My vote goes to Brunos for best restaurant in town.

:o

The Grill Room at Royal Cliff is also very nice.

I assume you're looking for upmarket places?

Thanks Jai Dee,

My dad reckons that Brunos is the one to beat. It's nice to have a table with a view though (like the Dusit), do you know much about the restaurant at the Royal Cliff?

Yes the more upmarket the better. It's great to be able to spoil ourselves at these great prices.

For decent Thai food (and western) try the Jazz Pit on Soi 5 between Beach Rd and 2nd Rd.

Excellant food with an atmosphere to match

For the best sunset views go to Horizon restaurant on the 337th floor (almost) .It's on top of a condo block on Pratunak(?) Hill.

Haven't been there for a while but the food and atmosphere were great last time I went.

Enjoy :o

I dine at the Grill Room maybe once every 2 months... it has a nice sea view if you're at a window seat.

They also have a superb collection of wine there.

I'd second that... 5 star service and 5 star food and a breathtaking view over Pattaya and the sea.

Service was a little slow last time I was there, but if you've got plenty of time and a bottle of wine, why hurry?

BTW Kurgen... I think it's more like the 28th floor... :o

The royal Cliff has a good Indian restaurant with a view.....Mata Hari is now symphony but seems to have kept up to standard. Ruen Thai on second is a good sampler for Thai food and culture...usually has a bit of a show and some music. Vientiane on Walking Street has a good range of seafood, Thai, Lao and Vietnamese dishes overlooking the sea. Moom Aroi has 2; one on 3rd road and another on the beachfront at Naklua...lovely setting and good seafood.

Bruno’s is really rather bland, it trades on a reputation it doesn't deserve, the wine list is good but dear and everything is served with a boring ratatouille. It’s also in a rather bland location...god for a bland night out with bland food and bland people! Bruno is dead I believe and his partner?

Out of town there are some great places to try.....Preecha seafood at Ban Amphoe overlooks the sea does good seafood and is occasionally patronised by Thai royal family. Not dear, everything from "pok-pok to black crab in curry and green onion. About 10 km south of Pattaya.

Further south, Sattahip has loads of good seafood.

North of Pattaya, about 25 km is Sri Racha, Moom Aroi have another on the seafront here and there is also the Grand Sea view, again out over the water. Both have car parking.

All along the coast around Pattaya you will find good seafood restaurants...even behind the Esso oil refinery at Laem Chabang!!!!

2 other places in Pattaya that might be worth looking at;

1/. Cabbages and Condoms - don't be put off by the name, it has a lovely restaurant set in tropical gardens on a small cliff overlooking the sea. This is a charity run to improve the lot of the poor in the north by improving agriculture and sexual health, hence the name.

2/. Soh Larb Ped – this is a tiny basic little place in a back street between Carrefour and 3rd road. They have bamboo furniture and serve lovely Issan food – only big bottles of beer or whiskey but you can take your own wine. Cheap as chips!

Bon appetite!

The Balcony I have used for many years, prices very reasonable, excellent eatery in a Crap location.

Good Dining in good location can be had at Sugar Hut also.

Cheers :o

Sonars,

Pattaya Park Tower, revolvering restaurant, about 1h before sunset. Food not the best, buffet, selfservice (take the kids with you) and a breathtaking view!

Ban Amphoe is Imo the best place for really fresh seafood, Sattahip is not recommendable.

Sugar Hut? - good building but the menu is unintelligible and the food overpriced and soooo bland!

Most memorable part of a Nov. dinner at the Jazz Pit was the 350 baht charge for a glass of Aussie red :o

Thanks for the recommendations everyone, we finally decided on the Grill Room at the Royal Cliff.

Overall we were really happy with our choice (apart from this flipping russian kid running riot in the place and spoiling the ambiance) :o

The only other slight disappointment was that the main course was a little like what you'd expect from a Berny Steak House back home (I had the Angus Steak which is cut at your table). For a meal that cost around 6,000 Baht I would have expected the steak to be accompanied by something a little bit more adventerous than a grilled tomato and a tablespoon of sweet corn. The starter, desert, coffees, etc... were all out of this world though.

For my fine dining experiences in Pattaya I would put Casa Pascal (great everything) in first position and The Bay at the Dusit (great setting) and The Grill Room (great food) in joint second place.

Roll on next year when we'll go to the Horizon Restuarant at the top of that condo thingy. I'll start saving up now!

Best regards,

Sonars

Just one more thing: There was a set meal (five courses I think) priced at 850 Baht which looked pretty good.
