I am planning to resign from my current teaching position at the end of Feb., but I want to keep my Bangkok apartment until early June--I might do some part-time work(in which case I'll get a new work permit), but the more likely scenario is I will use Bangkok as a base for southeast Asia travel and not work at all. When I resign, I know my non immigrant B visa ends, but can be extended for 7 days and on rare occasions for up to 21 days. Can it be extended longer? Under what circumstances? Or is a tourist visa(acquired in Cambodia or Vietnam perhaps) a better idea? (I'm a Canadian citizen.) If I go for the tourist visa, do I have to show proof of a ticket back to Canada(which I wasn't planning on getting yet)? Is there some other way around this? What I need is to be able to stay for 90 days, or a little bit longer, after my last working day. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

You do not have a valid visa but on a one year extension of stay for work? That would end with the end of work but you would have a week or two to leave or obtain a new visa.

If you have been making 90 day visa runs (rather than having an immigration extension of stay) any valid visa/stay will remain valid when you end work and can continue to be used.

You could just cross border every 30 days with one of the bus trips. Not sure what Consulates require for a tourist visa but it also is probably an option.

You can not legally work without a non immigrant visa.
