Title pretty much has it.

Usual stuff seating, tables, wardrobes, chest of drawers.

Any hints and tips greatly appreciated.

Cheap now, or cheap over the next year or two? They are very different.

I'd say IKEA for nearly everything. Beds, go to an independent shop but make sure it's properly made, and not out of rubber wood that will bow and bend in 3 months, and definitely not paper mache. Spend about 15-20K on this and it will last, rather than one that will fall to bits in 6 months.

For electricals I went to one of the specialist promotions at Central Bang Na, funnily enough the best disounts were for paying by credit card.

I find Ikea never really that cheap when you add the add-ons like the different handles or what-ever. Brilliant marketing but you will end up spending more than you intended.. If you have the time you can check them out and compare with the " full fare" furniture shops. Chutachuk Markets has some great furniture - a lot of it replica antique or replica traditional Asian stuff. May not be budget either but very nice all the same .

It all really depends on whether you're using (or abusing) your bed for any vigorous athletic activities. Are you simply a sloth-like snoozer, or are you a dedicated horizontal Olympian who's passionate about training up the Thai female team of chiselled athletes for Rio 2016? Choose your bed according to what you'll use it for.

Well the bed in question has had my 60 something parents staying on it for about 3 weeks, and for the last 5 weeks myself and my wife, and occasionally a ~4 Kg new born, in its 6 month lifespan. There hasn't been much in the way of bedroom olympics going on I can tell you, and it's already falling to bits.

Absolute rubbish!

I agree with the sentiment that you can save money by spending a little more. There is a lot of crap out there, expensive and inexpensive both. I suggest ikea as well. The quality control will probably be there, at least to a much greater extent.

I saw some beautiful couches and coffee tables at the last furniture show I went to. They were by "furnique furniture"... japanese looking stuff, so beautiful and well made. I have his card, it is [email protected] to email him. Almost everything else at the whole show was 100% crap except for some nice teak stuff.

Is there really anywhere other to go than IKEA? You get products that are designed to fit heavy white people... The Thai companies design their charis and stuff for Thais (it will break if you are heavy)...

It is much better to pay a bit more the first time, those items will be cheaper in the long run, unless you trash them (or let the flooding get to it).

I agree that there are money to be spent if you spend a bit more- but each for himself/herself- buy it for what you need it for. Do you need everything at once? better to build up over time if you are on a budget... more fun it is also...

What I'm on the look out for is a round, wooden 6 seat dining table and chairs. Really like the heavy hard wood stuff but not in a position to pay 100K for a table unfortunately. Budget 15-20K and don't expect the same quality obviously, but so far haven't found anything. Any ideas?

Seriously, people are always coming here, buying really nice furniture, then having a change of plans. When they figure out what it costs to ship stuff, they end up selling, and since it's a VERY soft market, they often let good stuff go for a fraction of its purchase price.

Try the classifieds sites, here on Thaivisa, Craigslist and others. Some good deals from motivated sellers.

There used to be a shop in, I think, Sukhumvit 49, that specialized in buying stuff from Japanese students, It wasn't big furniture, but lots of useful things at around half-price or less. Probably something similar for big furniture, if you know where to look. And even if it needs refinishing, it's worth it, as labor is cheap here.

I never really thought of that, a lot of people just stay a year or two - i just checked it out (e.g. Craigslist)...there are a lot of desperate sellers on these sites, if you are a coldhearted/chinese buyer, you could get very good deals on these sites :-)
