Translation For Tattoo

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have been living in Thailand for a 6 years now and have decided to get a tattoo in Thai script.

I wanted to run this past u guys if you don't mind as well as asking many Thai people about the translation to make sure it is correct.

I want the quote "what doesn't kill you makes u stronger" or the Thai equivelant.

I did have this translated a while back, but lost it, I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this, I know you guys probably get loads of these requests.

Thanks.

So i just asked a Thai friend and got this:

สิ่งที่ฆ่าคุณไม่ได้ ย่อมทำให้คุณแข็งแรงขึ้นเสมอ

Does this look right to people?, if that was translated back into English what would it say?

Thanks

Literally:

The thing(s) that can't kill you inevitably make you stronger/more powerful always.

However, to me this reads like a word by word translation from English, rather than natural Thai.

OP, I hope you haven't tatooed that phrase on your body. The translation above is correct but it's somewhat "soft". My idea of tatoo is that it should sound "cool", not "soft". How about this one:

คนเราแกร่งขึ้นหลังจากรอดตายจากชีวิตวิบัติ

It's not a word by word translation like the first version, but it means the same thing except it's much more musculine. Ask Thai people, they can tell you the difference between these two versions. Good luck.
