Carpenters are the most difficult to find here for some reason. And if you do get someone to come over and give a bid, 99% of the time they will never come back to do the job as they don't have time, or they get busy on a big job in San Kampaheng, etc. etc. We got the last guy that was recommended on here to come over once. He was very nice and seemed to know his stuff but said that the job (which was around 7K THB) wasn't big enough for him. He didn't do small jobs. We gave up.

Good luck.

Email kan at this address or go to his shop

Kan has a wood shop, carpenters and the family own a factory

Best carpenters I've see in Chiang Mai

To find his shop head for the Mae Rim junction on the Super Highway

Keep on the slip road heading for the Lanna Hospital... the shop is about 500 metres from the junction

Kam speaks excellent English

Do yourself a favour and specify every last detail of what you want (this applies to all building work). It may save you a lot of trouble later.

For drawers specify Hafele fittings or you may think a train is coming through the room as one gets closed, they will do anything to save a few baht. Choose the other fittings yourself at Ponsuk near Volvo Superhwy.

Remember that good quality wood finishes like stain and lacquer or "enamel" painting cost more than you think (example door to buy 2400, stain and lacquer job 1500 baht, hardware 1400 baht).

Ensure that if the start they will work continually on your job. Not paying more than a reasonable materials cost will help ensure this.

Last on the list is to leave the place clean as they found it.

If they think you are too fussy you don't need them.
