I can't help but to notice that every cover band including those who don't usually cover english songs have hotel california in their playlist.

It could be smoke in the water, smells like teen spirit, knockin on heavens door but its always hotel california that seems to be a must play in their playlist. sure there must be a good reason behind this, anyone know why?

Yup Hotel California, Zombie and Scorpions "Wind Of Change" are the three farang songs most Thais know.

If you find yourself in a Thai karaoke bar chances are you'll be choosing from these three.

I think John Denver's Country Roads trumps them all, if you listen carefully.

Because Thailand is like "Hotel California"

On a dark long flight, cool wind in my hair

Warm smell of Singha, rising up through the air

Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light

My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim

I had to stop for the night

There she stood in the doorway;

I heard the mission bell

And I was thinking to myself,

"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"

Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way

There were voices down the corridor,

I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the Hotel Thailand

Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)

Such a lovely face

Plenty of room at the Hotel Thailand

Any time of year (Any time of year)

You can find it here

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends

She got a lot of old fat Farangs she calls friends

How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.

Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the Madam,

"Please bring me my wine"

She said, "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine"

And still those voices are calling from far away,

Wake you up in the middle of the night

Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the Hotel Thailand

Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)

Such a lovely face

They livin' it up at the Hotel Thailand

What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)

Bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,

The Leo and Heineken on ice

And she said "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"

And in the whore houses,

They gathered for the feast

They grab it with their drunken hands,

But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was

Running for the door

I had to find the passage back

To the place I was before

"Relax, " said the Ma -dam,

"We are programmed to receive.

You can check-out any time you like,

But you can never leave! "

Says it all....

You can check out but you can never leave.........

Because it is a great song - but I have heard it a few million too many times.

so popular, because it is a song of the good ole days era,

for many of the old fart farangs , living in LOS .

shake em zimmers , and rattle your teeth .clap2.gif

i should know .

Even us younger farts can appreciate some of the later versions such as this club mixsmile.png

Not only here...

You can still listen to it on all the 70's trail from Istanbul, Pudding Shop -via Kathmandu- 'till Bali, Kuta beach

Must be the most played tune around campfires on those auspicious times...

In competition maybe with "

" ?!?
