Has anyone ripped the CDs that come with the book Thai for Beginners by Benjamin Poomsan Becker?

I purchased the book and audio tapes but now need the audio part in mp3 format.

again I already purchased the tapes, I don't want to spend another 600 baht (so already purchased the content just need a different format, there are no moral problems of ripping off an author)

pm me if you have them or have any suggestions.

thanks.

Yep. Agree with penzman. I have copied tape to mp3 before. If recording from your cassette walkman into a computer you should just get a cable with a standard walkman earphone plug on each end. This will send the sound of the walkman into the computer.

From there you get a piece of recording software to record the tape to mp3 format. You could try Goldwave for example, it is an open source recorder. It has lots of functions you will not need though, so it may take a little time to suss out how to set it up.

Will cost you less in money and time to simply buy the book.

I ve done it as I was out of the country with my tapes and let it record while I slept and have been recording on pc for years.

I have some books but it's difficult if you don't know how to pronounce. I also have those pimsleur lessons 1 to 10 on mp3 and linguaphone lessons on cassete but i would like to have them on mp3 too. as i am not a computer wizard and don't know how to copy from cassete to mp3 - i would like to download them from internet. Any idea where i could do this?

Thanks

You dont need to be a computer wizard jaysari, just spend one to two hours researching what you need to do when you have the right equipment. If the help files are not enough, try asking in Thaivisa's Internet and communication technology forum, and you are bound to get help.

As has been said you will need

a.) A computer.

b.) A cassette player or (cassette) walkman

c.) A tele cable (both ends of the cable should have the same type of plug as your walkman's headphones). One end of the cable goes to the headphone jack of the walkman / cassette player. The other end goes into the MIC port of your computer.

Once you have this, all you need is the right piece of software. You can download Audacity for free at the address specified above. Once you have Audacity, all you need to do is to install it and learn the very few operations required of you to record from your cassette player.
