Any Advice For Diy Window Guards?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I live in a condo with aluminium-framed windows and my wife is insisting that I install 'window guards' which would stop out son from accidentally falling out of an open window. I found a US company which sells them in different sizes;

of course, not in Thailand. I asked at Home Pro and Home Mart and got the typical 'don't have'. Google didn't throw anything up, does anyone know if these are sold in Thailand?

My windows are 97cm in height and 58cm in width. My wife contacted a local company which sells the metal bar-frames and we're looking at around 2,000baht per window which seems excessive as they are designed primarily to prevent a break-in which isn't a concern for our 4th floor condo, really.

Does anyone have any cost-effective solutions or ideas? Would it be possible to install horizontal bars across the whole window and I'm asking in the DIY forum because I'd like to know how you might go about this.

Thanks

How do your windows open? Do they tilt, turn, or slide? And more importantly how do you use your windows? If you never open them, except for cleaning, you could have locks fitted. Alternatively, you could have a catch mechanism that prevents the windows to slide or turn open more than 12cm. (This is the common norm for a maximum gap in balustrades.)
