Calling Home

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to call home while travelling in Thailand? (By the way - when I say home I mean Australia) Last time we used the 300THB phone cards that we purchased from a shop in Bangkok.

Thanks,

L

buy or borrow a thai phone and use their phone cards,i mainly used the yellow international phone's, made loads of calls and still had loads left.

Yeah, use a Thai SIM card, buy pay as you go cards and prefix with 009. It's 7 bpm to the UK and perhaps the same for Oz. CAT TELECOM have also got a deal out until Feb sometime, with rates at 2 bpm to Australia, UK, US etc. SKYPE is really cheap or free from pc to pc, but you'd need an internet cafe with it installed and your people in Oz to have it installed, too - if you want to do it free - plus you may feel a bit daft talking into a computer in a busy internet cafe. :o

Thanks for the advice. Would a Thai Sim card fit into my normal mobile (provided mine has the ability)..... and if so, where do they sell them?

L

Yes, it would(though your mobile telephone may be network locked. if so, that can be safely remedied for a couple of hundred baht). SIM cards sold at the local 7/11 for 199 baht.

Better still, go to the MBK centre in Siam Square, Bangkok.
