BANGKOK, Sept 25 - Yossawaris Chuklom, also known as Jeng Dokjik, jailed Red Shirt activist and former comedian, confessed in Criminal Court today to having broken the law and promised to refrain from all political activity if he is released on bail.

The court will decide Friday whether to grant him temporary freedom. His wife put up Bt600,000 in cash as bail bond. Mr Yossawaris was jailed last month when his bail was revoked for his alleged intimidation of members of the Constitution Court.

Jeng Dokjik, an assistant to the interior minister and a member of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), the Red Shirts, said he has written a formal apology and confession to all seven members of the Constitution Court, and had his apology published in Matichon and Khao Sod daily newspapers Sept 14-16.

“If I am released on bail,” he claimed, “I will explain to the public on neutral judgments by the court and other justice-related organisations. My explanation will be academic, without personal opinion. I will not flee, or become involved in Red Shirt activities, or infringe on the rights of other people or independent organisations,” he said.

Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, in his capacity as Jeng Dokjik’s superior, has issued a letter endorsing his behaviour. The letter was submitted to the court.

Shortly after Mr Yossawaris pledged to the court that he would convince UDD leaders to tone down their political activity, UDD leader Thida Thavornseth said she will convene a meeting of key leaders. She said “the people’s movement will never die.”

The Criminal Court turned down Jeng Dokjik’s bail requests twice last month despite the fact that he publicly told the court that he felt remorseful while spending his life behind bars and would not repeat the mistake. (MCOT online news)

Interesting that his celebrity wife, Karuna (pictured below visiting him in prison earlier), put up the bail this time.

it was the Red Shirt Lawyer Winyat that provided the 600,000 Baht for bail.

Is Red Shirt Leader Dokjik now on the outs with the Red Shirts?

His calls for them to ratchet things down might not have gone over well with the other leaders.

I wasn't making any point about her other than she is his wife and a celebrity (read my post... you did quote it, afterall). ;)

Sorry to hear about your friend's wife, though.

As for your spelling my member name improperly, perhaps you should retire for the evening as it's even further off than the other 48 times it's been brought to your attention.

He's confessed. Can he go to jail now?

Exactly!

Now herein lies the dichotomy. The court cannot take pity and let him out, by doing so they will undermine their own legal authority, because bail is set under the condition that the subject does not become involved with any criminal activities, amongst any other conditions that may be set. The comedian has now confessed to criminal activity, therefore he cannot be allowed out, he has breached his bail conditions and you are not supposed to get two chances.

It seems a huge error, and one can't help wondering if Thaksin has provided some 'expert' legal assistance to advise him on a course of action that he (the joker) thinks will lead to his release but will surely keep him locked up. A nice solution for Thaksin to get one of the pesky reds out the way and it would appear to be all the comedians own fault. It doesn't sound like Thida was too impressed with the pledge to get other UDD leaders to tone down their political activity.

He is squirming on a stick now and realises there is no glory with incarceration. Ooh ooh, must get some popcorn for Friday smile.png

Red's bail verdict due on Friday

THE NATION

30191136-01_big.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court will issue a verdict on the bail release of red-shirt leader Yoswarit “Jeng Dokjik” Chooklom on Friday.

At a hearing yesterday, Yoswarit said he regretted his behaviour and promised not to join any rallies. He also vowed not to jump bail.

He said he had written letters of apology to Constitution Court judges and published apologies in Matichon and Khaosod from September 14-16 and told other red-shirt detainees not to behave in an offensive manner in court.

Court revoked Yoswarit's bail on August 22 after he attacked Constitution Court judges and releasing their family members' phone numbers on stage at a red-shirt rally. His bail request on September 5 was rejected. He faces terrorism charges for actions in 2010.
