PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s iconic adult entertainment zone, Walking Street, has officially been declared as a Tourist “Safety Zone”.

Police Lieutenant General Panya, Region 2 Police Commissioner hosted a ceremony on the famous street on Friday Night to launch the campaign which is designed to assure tourists that their safety is paramount.

All Police Divisions are working together to ensure that Walking Street will become one of the safest areas in Pattaya.

The city has seen a rise in crime recently and this new “Safety Zone” is designed to reassure tourists that their safety is important to the city. Officials also hope that the new scheme will boost both domestic and foreign tourism in Pattaya as further “Safety Zones” are set to be introduced around the city in the future.

Also showing their support of the scheme is the Pattaya administration led by Khun Itipon, the Pattaya Mayor, who was in attendance, along with the Deputy Provincial Governor Khun Pakkaton. To end the ceremony the National Police Scottish Pipe Band led a musical parade along Walking Street as hundreds of tourists looked on and took advantage of this one-off picture opportunity.

I think there has been some confusion. What a "safe zone" means in Pattaya is, no more than 9 Thai punks will be allowed to jump you at once with bottles and sticks. Outside of a "safe zone" it can be very dangerous, so it's best to get the word out that Walking Street is now safe and yaabaa-punk free.

Why 9? Because it's a lucky number, of course.

Yeah well that worked didn't it.

PATTAYA:--A Magician who used to entertain tourists on Walking Street was arrested early on Wednesday morning accused of stealing a handbag at knife-point from a Thai Clothes Shop owner.

Well if you read the story you'd see he was arrested for committing a crime outside the safety zone. Had he have been in the safety zone then the crime could never have happened. That is the point of the safety zones isn't it? Stay in the safety zone and you will be "safe". Step outside the zone and god only knows what can/will happen to you.
