Mac Laptop, Airport Express And Cslox Adsl

I am trying to configure my Mac 15" laptop with OS 10.4.3, a speedtouch 536 modem and an Apple Airport Express.

Right now Network diagnostics says that my airport is fine, my airport settings are fine, my network settings are fine, my isp is fine, my internet is fine and my service is fine. Of course, I can't get onto the internet with my airport and modem because there is obviously something wrong. I know this because the modem power light is on, the modem dsl light is on, the modem ethernet is blinking but the modem internet light was off.

So I retried setting up the modem. There are two possible setups. According to my airport express I need to use the DHCP server which means using bridged service. I enter all the information, this information:

Device:

Name SpeedTouch 5x6

Serial # 0523CHUD7

Device Configuration:

Region World

Provider Basic

Service Bridge

Description Bridged Connection.

Bridged Internet Connection:

VPI/VCI 8.35

LAN Settings:

DHCP Server enabled

Access Control:

User Name Administrator

Password ********

(access control I left blank with no password)

I click start to start the configuration and now all the lights are on on the modem but it doesn't connect. Instead I get this message in my browser:

Too many redirects occurred trying to open “http://192.168.1.254/cgi/wizard/?ce=1&be=0&l0=-1&l1=-1?(1,4,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&?(1,13,0,1,0,0)&&user.tpl&user.ini&8.35&enabled&Administrator&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page.

When I use the modem page to check the internet connection, I get this:

Test Results

DSL

operating

ATM

No ATM activity detected on your DSL line.

Ethernet

No Ethernet activity detected.

HELP! This is very frustrating as no one at CSlox seems to know anything about Macs or about Airport Express.

Thanks.

Ruth

I'm far from an expert on all this, but I run several PowerBooks and iBooks off a wireless network consisting of an Airport Extreme and two Airport Expresses without the slightly problem using True. It sounds to me like you most probably have a problem with your DSL line regardless of Loxinfo trying to duck responsibility (welcome to Thailand...).

Have you tried using your PowerBook (or iBook) at, say, Starbucks? If it works fine on their wifi set up there, you can eliminate it absolutely as a source of your problem.

That would leave your Airport Express as the possible culprit. Or not. When you run the SetUp Assistant for your Airport Express, that is pretty much that. The Airport Express self-configures for the DSL line it detects. Once that is done, there are no configuration issues with your laptop. The Airport Express broadcasts a wifi signal and your laptop works off it exactly as it would at Starbucks. It would appear most likely from your post that the Airport Express isn't detecting a useable ADSL circuit on which it can configure.

Why don't you try plugging your laptop directly into the DSL line and see how you go? If it works fine, then you are indeed having a problem configuring Airport Express. If you can work that way either, you unquestionably have a line problem. If Loxinfo won't fix it, get a new ISP.

I suggest you let them configure it, using a Windows PC rig and your troubles will be over and done with. Trust me, I know, because I had the same problems as you and it took them two additional visits to sort it out before I was surfing online.

I signed up through my apartment complex using CSLoxinfo as the ISP. The modem they provided is a Billion Astra. I use an Airport Base Station hooked up to the Billiona and run my Powerbooks off of the Wi-Fi.

What it comes down to is this: their system requires that they use an open browser window running Internet Explorer 6 (or greater) to configure the link between ISP and modem. Since Microsoft stopped development of IE for OS X at 5.3 it is not technically possible to configure the connection using your Powerbook.

If you call them back and tell them to bring their own Windows laptop and use that to configure the settings all will be resolved. It worked for me...

PS- Please delete that gawd-awfully-long URL you pasted into the thread- it is the culprit responsible for the excess thread width here.
