Recommended Wine Bars In Cm

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Am after recommendations of wine bars in CM, preferably that are open after midnight as this is when our business closes. Located close to the Eastern side of the most would be a plus. With thanks in advance.

The Writer's Club is hardly a wine bar. It is more of a restaurant. A wine bar primarily serves wine; the Writer's Club is not in that category (lots of places out there have mostly food and a bit of wine and drink!).

Here are 3 proper wine bars:

1) The Box, Soi 5, Nimmanhaemin Road (open til 1 a.m.)

2) The Glass Onion, Soi 17, " (open til "late"; gay crowd but not exclusively);

3) Wine Bar, Kantary Terrace, Soi 12, "

There are a couple of others not in the Nimmanhaemin Road area, but all close earlier (like Wine Connection and Italasia).

With thanks

Going off topic a little, but I've been reminded of this wonderful sketch.

Hello everyone, I'll be in Chiang Mai next week and was researching wine bars when I hit on this string. I'd already identified The Box, Wine Bar Kantary Terrace and Wine Connection as interesting possibilities but when I tried to research them further it seemed that they may have closed. Has anyone been to any of them recently? Many thanks.

I think soi 7 off Nimmen also one called that S wine.

great name, but they did include the apostrophe, sell wine exclusively, not pork.

only opened earlier this year, and one more opening November on soi 9 (was a tapas bar before on the corner)

there we have it, not East side of the moat, but clearly the west is where its happening guys

Anybody know of the wine bar in the new fancy looking building near the stadium? Saw if for the first time yesterday, has a big sign "Wine Bar"

The Wine Shoppe - Chang Puek next to the Mecure Hotel. Primarily a shop but you can also enjoy the merchandise on the premises. thumbsup.gif

www.thewineshoppe.org They have an online catalogue and will deliver too.

Pern's restaurant - Mediterranean food (which incorporates the former Darling Wine bar) has a small bar and a good wine list. On Huay Kaew Road, opposite Shell Gas Station (same block as Salsa Kitchen and lemon tree)

What is a "wine bar" exactly? Is it a place where connoisseurs hang about and talk about wine, have little sip now and then, compare the color, aroma etc....? FCOL, wine is alcohol, available in most restaurants. Down the hatch. tongue.png

Try Sukhasem cafe.

It's quite upmarket and possibly classed as 'Hiso' to some here, but they have a dedicated section at the back of the restaurant, in a separate room, purely for wine. Their food is amazing too (different area) though more expensive than other parts of Chiang Mai.

It's on Sukhasem road, the same as iBerry if you know where that is :)

" The Glass Onion, Soi 17" A recent review said the favoured House Wine is a rather rude little local offering said to have, and I quote, "A woody palate with a salty after taste."

In Chiang Mai, it's any place with more wine on offer than a box of Mont Clair and a 5 liter bottle of house wine.

Been watching this post develop as I'm interested to find a nice place to find a decent drop myself.

Have to agree with Paagai about the wine shop, I was pleasantly surprised when I first found it. Even more pleasantly surprised to find the website, don't even have to leave the house now!

And while WTK is technically correct, I must add further-

A wine bar (also known as a bodega) is a tavern-like business focusing on selling wine, rather than liquor or beer. A typical feature of many wine bars is a wide selection of wines available by the glass. Some wine bars are profiled on wines of a certain type of origin, such as Italian wine or Champagne. While many wine bars are private "stand alone" establishments, in some cases, wine bars are associated with a specific wine retailer or other outlet of wine, to provide additional marketing for that retailer's wine portfolio. In countries where licensing regulations allow this, some wine bars also sell the wines they serve, and effective function as a hybrid between a wine shop and a wine bar.

Look forward to further exploration trips.

With the above in mind, Wine Connection (a wine retailer) often have wine tasting events that are really good to join. There are a couple branches in Chiang Mai. Find them on facebook for upcoming events.
