2 Year Visa But Thai Passport About To Expire.

Featured Replies

My next door neighbours wife got a 2 year tourist visa last time she visited the U.K. Her Thai passport is about to expire but the visa is still valid for another year. How can she move her visa to the new passport or does she just travel with both passports.

Also they have recently got married so to change to his name this year might make it a bit more difficult or not?

She can have the visa stamp moved to her new passport; but it will cost £102!

However, the visa will still be valid even if the passport it is in has expired. So I suggest she does what most people do and simply carries both the old passport with the valid vis in it and her new passport. If she does change her name in the new passport her marriage certificate should provide the link. However, if this is in Thai she should have a certified English translation as well.

Thanks 7by7 I don't think there is any urgency to change name. So you think just carrying old and new passport with same name will be ok? and change for next visit?

Yes, it will be OK, lots of people do it, although more usually with settlement visas.

Transferring a visa from an expired passport

You do not normally need to transfer your visa to your new passport - you can travel with both passports, and show them both to an immigration officer when you arrive in the UK.

She should show them both to the airline when checking in, as well, as they wont board her without a valid visa or a valid passport.
