Hi,

I'm planning to go to Thailand to stay there for some time, minimum 9 months, hopefully much longer.

First 6-9 months as a tourist, after that maybe setting up a business.

We're two adults and one 2-year-old child, from Sweden.

If we stay longer than 9 months, we'll sell our house in Sweden and can then bring approx 5 million bahts to Thailand - does that matter in the Visa-situation? That money we would then use to some kind of small business.

What kind of Visa could/should we apply for? I've been reading a lot of the posts on this forum but do have difficulties getting the Visa-thing clear...

Thanks very much for your help!

As long as you haven't actually set up a business you don't have much choise except 60 days tourist visas.

From your other posts I gather you, and the other adult, both are females - and thus not a married couple - and none of you are Thai nationals. In that case I'd say those 5 million baht doesn't suffice for even considering settling in Thailand - espacially not with a 2 year old kid, who might get sick and who would have to go to school.

Assuming both of you are younger than 50 years old. Assuming none of you have any dependent Thai relatives. Assuming none of you have a job-offer from some Thai company --- your only option to change your visa-status from tourist to a non-immigrant visa (for both of you adults) would be to form a company with 4 million baht registered capital. This is required to obtain two workpermits without which you won't get non-immigrant visa category "B" (at least not beyond some "initiation" period).

Raising a foreign kid in Thailand isn't cheap. The leftover 1 million baht wouldn't last long and expecting a newly started small-scale business to provide survival means for two foreign adults + a foreign child is a rather unrealistic dream.
