Isn't Pornography Illegal In Thailand?

Featured Replies

If so why does Thai Visa carry adverts that show a guy sticking his fist inside a girls XXXX?

I am now afraid to read Thai visa when sitting (I mean standing) on the BTS. I opened yesterday and right at the bottom of the page was this advert. I knew that some wondering eyes near me had seen this ad.

I know Thai visa need the income from the adverts but shouldn't the adverts be legal?

Whoops, sorry about that, will try to remember that one too then. . .

Close and bin this stupid thread!

Aren't a lot of adverts often linked to ones previous surfing activity? wink.png

Just to clarify things as Thaivisa uses Google Ads placements. This is the Google standpoint on such type ads being submitted by them. As such, this is not coming from Google Ads or Thaivisa.

Adult sexual services

What's the policy?

Google AdWords doesn't allow the promotion of escort services, prostitution, or other adult sexual services.

The promotion of strip clubs and lap dancing that don't contain nudity will be given a "non-family safe" status, as long as they follow our policies.

The promotion of strip clubs and lap dancing that do contain nudity, as well as sexual dating sites, will be given an "adult" status, as long as they follow our policies. "Adult" products and services can only be advertised through text ads. Other ad formats, such as image or video ads, that promote adult sexual services will be disapproved.

Interesting that the policy is more about what it is that's being advertised rather than the explicititude 8-) of the ads themselves.

Yes, I have heard that before. In my case i haven't visited any porno sites but I have clicked on a wrong "download" button when trying to downoad an MP3. I was directed to some porn site and closed it immediately. Maybe that's the cause of it. I guess I'll have to search Google to find out.

Oh, I have disabled all cookies, history and so on so I am not sure that is the reason.

Anyway if i open Thaivisa on the BTS and these pics show up am I breaking the law? I mean anyone sitting next to me can see them and they are hard porn.

... well these are close up images of a guy's arm deep inside a woman so I suggest that Thai visa disapprove them.

This will also be my last post on the matter as I am not 100% sure of the discussion rules.

That quote is from Google's rules and as I stated, those are not coming from Google nor Thaivisa and as such it is a local computer issue and nothing we can do to 'disapprove' of.

It's blocked at our church and workplace do to all of the sex ads. Quite embarrassing visiting an expat social website that has such a demand for sexy encounters with kateoys.

Any other sites you can spend some time on apart from Thai Visa?

I really don't understand how a spam ad can mix in with a Thaivisa page.

I know that some cookies or whatever this awful spy things are called can cause to have an unwanted window to pop up, which shows an ad.But I think the OP is talking about a banner on the Thaivisa page, and I don't believe that any spam or spyware is able to manage that.

You have no understanding of how the modern Internet works.

Normal legitimate sites rely on advertising revenue, Google and all the social ones, deeply invade your privacy as much as any "spyware".

You have to educate yourself on technical matters and take extraordinary measures to have any semblance of privacy nowadays, takes a lot of time and energy to get even close to what most people would assume to be normal.

That is the price you pay for "free" services.

And I'm not allowed to share with you any specifics on how to do that here, because it interferes with the business model of sites like this that depend on advertising.

To answer the OP's original question about whether pornography is legal in Thailand, everything I have read seems to indicate that production, distribution and sale of a loosely defined "obscene material" is illegal, but possession isn't. Wikipedia says possession is legal. However this may be out of date. I think the 2007 Computer Crime Act changed that as far as computers are concerned. A couple years ago I remember an MICT official saying that if they detected anyone accessing pornography from a computer, they would be arrested, so one would assume there must be a law. But in this country who knows. It doesn't appear to be enforced. I have never heard of anyone arrested for surfing porn.

I just read a post on another forum where a guy was randomly stopped in Bangkok and his hard drives were searched. He was told he would go to jail if there was porn on them. He had a lotof porn on them which was found, but was then let go. Seems it was a bluff.
