Teana Radio

I just took my car to the first inspection (10,000km) and advised them that the radio display seems to have a fault. If we mentally divide the display into five horizontal sections, the fourth section is black:

I was told this is normal. Checking with other people who drive a Teana, they say the see the same. I think I saw the whole display used when I first got the car... Something wrong with my memory?

In addition, Thai song titles are not displayed correctly:

I bought the car in Thailand, so I would expect the display to show Thai writing.

Other than that, I am very happy with the car! This radio display thing is a minor issue, I just need to settle an argument with my friend.

My radio looks slightly different (no Kanji, only English), so it may be from another supplier. In any case, in the picture you linked you can see that the vertical line in the display goes through - so no black fourth line.

You mean iPods bought in Thailand don't show the Thai song names either? I used to have an iPhone, and it showed Thai characters fine. Anyway, that's off-topic, let's stick with the Nissan radio.

If you had a Cruze and posted the same, it would be nothing hut ridicule. But because its a Nissan everyone tries to help.

The radio display on my Cruze is perfect. Thai script can't be displayed. English only.

A man reaps what he sows...

My Isuzu displays Thai or English

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I'll give you a USB thumb drive with a bunch of Thai stuff someone downloaded from the Internet. We'll see how many song actually display the text.

That's got nothing to do with the player - that's caused simply by poorly implemented (e.g. someone added Thai script using ID3v1 which only supports ASCII) or non-existant ID3 tags on the MP3 files... Like you say, junk MP3 files that someone downloaded from the interweb..

Back to the OP - the photos you've uploaded here appear to be the base-model Teana XL - the navi models have a better full-color TFT screen - perhaps you test drove a navi model?

Yes, it's the base model... The navi model wasn't approved by our CFO. Are you saying the display is as it should on the base model?

I'm afraid all I know is that the base model 2.0 XL gets an old-school dot matrix screen in lieu of the TFT on upper models... I've only ever poked and prodded the top model..

Indeed, I drive a 250 XV 2012 Teana and even when engine not running you can see the black line on the display, upper part for radio, lower 1/4th for airco, don't have the navi model though.

Ah, so you are seeing the same as I do, thanks.

I remembered seeing the split screen on the Teana in a review last year: Honda Accord vs Nissan Teana vs Toyota Camry

So, your screen is normal. Also, the garbage characters are unfortunate but also normal since Thai isn't a supported language on most onboard computers. This goes for file names as well as metadata like ID3 tags.

Thanks for the link. OK, I am now convinced that my radio is as designed.

Correct. You can very easily edit the tags with free programs like winamp before you load them into a player or burn them onto CD.
