My First Encounter With Chiang Mai's Finest

tinfoil, it could happen to you when the walls protrude so much into the street.

My purpose of posting the thread, like I stated in my original post, was to warn people to take precaution while driving or riding.

But then Tinfoil and many others of us wouldn't have been

1. daft enough to stop.

2. daft enough to hand over cash when we were insured.

3. daft enough to bribe the police when we didn't need to.

Let's not call it bribe. I call it gratuity.

Not stop? Folk Guitar had already expressed his thoughts. For me, I like to solve things on the spot instead of weary. Face it and confront it.

Yes, I was insured but that was not in my thought when it happened. I was busy taking photos and talking to the locals. When my wife called, the sarawat took my phone and told my wife that: kow dit sao yu mai yong kai baan. Yeah, I was sitting on the floor enjoying my chats with the locals. My wife told me the sarawat was yelling at the locals for not being cooperative with the police.

Certainly, if you feel pissed and not feeling a bit kriengjai for a favor, you could hire a lawyer to reclaim your license and your car. You want to do that? I wasn't going to cos I needed to go to Bangkok in a few days and I needed my license!

Last time I had my license taken (not wearing a seatbelt) in CM, I asked my BIL (policeman) for it back. It was returned at no cost to me, I didn't even need to go to the station to get it.

Tell that to Tinhat and isk which I have tried to explain. It's convenience when nobody gets hurt. I can understand that but not fully condone it, but what can you do? I enjoyed that kind of privilege many years ago but I wasn't proud of it.

OP were you DUI? If you were , then the police did you a favour. You could've been deported. You don't need to answer this question. DUI is a criminal offence. Your case will be reported to immigration. You will then be deported. Unless you get a good lawyer to plead your ignorance.

I made the post to just detail my experience and warn others to drive or ride carefully. If you look at the pictures and imagine a motorcycle hitting it, it would have incurred severe damage.

A confrontational attitude at an incident like this would bring you nowhere particularly if you were a foreigner.. There were 4 cops and one seemed discriminatory to foreigners. I noticed that and I befriended the sarawat who was actually a reasonable guy. I was not in the wrong for hitting the wall but could be in the wrong somewhere else. So, I'm glad that it's resolved with his help. Why is it so hard for people to understand?

I had to reread the OP.

I thought you were looking for the Owner of the house to get him to compensate you for his illegal wall build.

Then I realized you were looking for him to pay to fix his wall.

Next time, stop to pick up your bumper and then drive home....and don't drive drunk.

pay the viper its actual due without the inflation.

ahhh....sorry for being pedantic here,,,,the viper...the only British poisonous snake; so I am assuming (wrongly i guess) you are native English speaker????

Let me point you in the direction of google because on the keyboard my "P" is nowhere near my "v" so typing error..i think not.

The idiom is "pay the the piper" and i could go into the origin, of paying your penny after your death to ensure the piper takes your body safely in his boat to valhalla or wherever...

no insult intended and i apologise if in your native land you pay the viper.

Sorry also but I'm pretty sure that it would be the Boatman,NOT the Piper that would take your body in his boat and it'd probably be to Hades wouldn't it?
