I live and work in Thailand and I was issued what was explained to me as a Thai ID for a non Thai in 2006 along with a Thai Social Security card. The Thai ID is a tan colored card with my name and number and some other information in Thai.

Yesterday I recieved my Yellow Book and the Amphur pointed out where my new Thai ID is printed in the Yellow Book.

I have a few questions I need help with.

Do I need to keep both ID's or does the Yellow Book replace the original ID I was issued.

Do I need to inform the Lawyers and Accountants who handle my business affairs about the Yellow Book?

From researching on this site I understand that having a Yellow Book and being married to a Thai I do not need to go the PR route for Thai Citizenship. What other benefits are there for having a Yellow Book?

Not sure what you have, doesn't sound like an ID-card that I know off. But might be an ID-card that identifies you as working for the government?

The yellow book is not an ID-card, it is a registration of your address. it confrms that you are living at the address the yellow book was issued for and you can use it as proof of address.

Thanks for the reply Mario.

I dont work for the government. I work for a US firm that is Japanese owned.

My wife just got back and translated the so called ID card. She says it is a Tax Payer ID Card.

The card was issued to me by the Dept Revenue in Phra Phutthabaht, Saraburi, which is where I work.

The address in the Yellow Book is in Phra Padaeng. When the Amphur gave me the Yellow Book she said that the documents I provided are going to be sent to the Police Headquarters in Bangkok and that in approxiametly 6 weeks I will be notified to go for an interview. According to the wife after the interview I will get a Thai ID and then added to the Blue book.

From researching on this site I dont find anything about a process such as this. To me a Thai ID means citizenship and the process explained here is a lot more complicated than what is being explained to me.

There is no police interview for a yellow tabien baan and never heard of any procedure you describe. I think it is just a misinformed person at the amphur, they don't get to add many foreigners on a yellow book.

The tan card is most likely your tax ID card., approximately 6cm x 9cm. It is the number used by the revenue department for your taxes.

Thanks Mario. You are probably correct about the Amphur.

My wife and I were married in the US and originally had our marriage registered at the Kong Toey Amphur which was a painless process. The Phra Padaeng Amphur did not accept this and required us to supply all the docs again with recent translations as well as another afadavit from the US embassy. We thought it prudent to comply with their terms instead of belaboring the point.
