Issarn Farmers Meeting No. 7

irrigator

Recommended Posts

Having had all the discussions re IFM no.6 it is now time to find a new host for IFM no.7.

I hosted the last one and a great day was had by all. There were some issues but those have been dealt with and there is no need for them to aired in this thread.

Both myself and my wife had a great time meeting new people at "our" event and look forward to someone new taking up the gauntlet and hosting the next one.

I sincerely hope that we can keep this moving forward.

Regards

Irrigator.

How about a bit of a change in venue, Ubon has , as I am told a very good agriculture collage. Now if one of the locals from that area could arrange a tour, we could all kick in a few Baht to pay the guide. Then after, a sit down meal in one of the fine eateries [ pizza ] after which the wrongway bar for lots of beer and BS. Par Dang mansion is not 200 meters away, free WiFi good rooms at 500 Baht a night.

Only 2 hour drive for me and wife and kids will come, Big C, Tesco's and ice-cream, plus MacDonald's will be open then.

Just a thought that looking at the latest in farming here may just give a few new ideas. Jim

Dont we have a member that is a professor and involved in seeds in Ubon at a University?

Must have been drunk when that came up, if so he can arrange a tour. Jim

John Clements suggested to me that the Royal Development Study Centre at Sakhon Nakon could possibly be a good venue for a meeting (they have an English web-site so Google it to check it out). John and I are planning on visiting the place during the first week in December to find out if they would be able to give us a tour with English and Thai speaking guides. We'll also check out nearby resorts capable of providing food, accommodation and somewhere to socialise.

I thought that a suitable date for the next meeting would be around 26 January 2013, subject to the Study Centre availability. I know that is Australia Day, but how many of you Ozzies would be going elsewhere that would prevent you attending. It's also the day after Rabbie Burn's birthday and most Burn's Suppers will be on 26 January too, so any Scots could come in their kilts with the Ozzies in their national dress as well (whatever their national dress is - jump suits maybe?).

Any comments regarding this idea and/or the suggested date before we go to see them? Russell (Aussieruss) will have to wait until meeting number 8 which will probably be in April if we continue to follow a 3 monthly cycle as we have done to date.

Aussieruss.

Thanks so much for offering to hold an IFM in mid April. Very kind and much look forward to coming - 'God Willing!" Very kind of you and hope you don't mind it being possibly IFM no.8 rather than 7!

Worm Farmer.

I look forward to hearing about your visit with John to the RDBP at Sakon Nakhon at the beginning of December. Having Googled it, it sounds both interesting and different from anything we have done before and would nicely fit in between our our last meeting at Irrigator and the next one with Aussieruss. Only problem I can forsee, as you point out Worm Farmer, is that us English etc. will have to put up with various VERY drunk Scots and Aussies BUT there is always the old saying - "If you can't beat 'um, join 'um".

JamesCollister.

Jim. About 50 years ago, I was at the Royal Agricultural College in England, where they tried to teach me about growing cereals, sugarbeet, etc. BUT all was useless as they taught me nothing about growing rice, sugarcane or even rubber which might have been helpful now!! It was a good and fun time however. When you have sobered up in a year or two (when you have high rubber prices and a stable work force!), I anyway would be amused to go round a Thai Agricutural College even if it has an Aussie Professor. dam_n Aussies seem to get everywhere!! Let's keep it in mind and see how Worm Farmer's visit goes and if not now then keep in mind for a later date perhaps.

Thanks for all your offers and thoughts.

Anthony.

Anthony,

I can't be sure but I think Russell was offering to host meeting no. 17 not 7. I don't think he's in a position yet to host a meeting so he is looking to the future. Maybe Russell will confirm if that's what he meant or if it was a typing mistake.

Let's move on .IFMNo7 early mid April good for me I come from AUS for this.Ihave said i will have IFMNo17 iwill do my best rgds Russell

Sent from my GT-I9100T using Thaivisa Connect App

WF.

You meany!!!!!

Read again.

You know it is what I am liable to do on these dreadful threads - miss type.

When I was at school, we were not taught how to type OR spell as we were expected to have secretaries who would do that for us.

It's NOT just old age, it's poor education as well.

In recent years, thanks to Bill Gates and the invention of the computer, we now have a 'spell check' which has saved my bacon (although IsaanAussies pigs taste better). Pity Thai Visa does not have one as it would save me so much time checking in my dictionary whenever I write here!!!!!!

I admit that 'spell check' wouldn't have helped here but that's beside the point!

Speak soon.

WF.

It's I who have just read Russell's note again.

I grovel to you.

You could be right

BUT

I could never be so subtle as as you think he may be and my simple mind instantly read it as an error for 7!!

Accept my apologies and I will take back calling you a meany!!

This sort of venue would give us a chance to catch up on some current research no doubt. But with respect it would mean a lot of work for those organising it as there may well be different things we are interested in and different demonstrations and tours needed. Sakorn is a long way to travel to walk around counting test tubes for a couple of hours. Not trying to be funny here, it just occurs to me that the nearest ag college or university to each of us may be more useful.

Having said that, we all know how hard it is to increase your knowledge given local conditions and data availability. So it is a great idea, but I do have some doubts on outcomes.

Is it ok for us Trolls to post ideas for future meetings?

Seems you lot cant agree on anything!!!!

Fire away. Most Farmers need additional material for the compost heap. All BS is welcome

Should i reply or not, ok, in this case i will, seems most of what you say is BS comes from you, your theories about dont hang your washing out to dry are crap, Yorkshire folk are the most direct in the uk, they say what they feel, no hidden feelings, ok, of topic, who cares anyway!!!

The Bangkok and Ubon hashers will have a joint run (and more) in Kong Chiam on Saturday 26/1 - 2013, so another date - perhaps 1/2 -2013 would be good. biggrin.png

So far a college tour has been suggested twice with a couple of venue options. We have an advanced booking for meeting 17 but not a host for number 7.

So why dont we focus on what we would like to see on such a tour. If there is a consensus or even a few things most would like to investigate then we need to find which college has the activities we want. Seems doable to me...

By the way Lickey, you hardly qualify as a troll in my book. Any other suggestions would be more than welcome. So would new participants.

Bergen, if you can get an internet connection in Norway, don't forget the walking stick candies for the Christmas tree. Gingerbread-men would be great too...

Lickey, thankyou for your constructive comments. As one who has never attended any of the Isaan Farmers Meetings your well informed remarks will obviously immeasurably enhance the present thread. We shall look forward with pleasure to your future contributions and attendance at one of the meetings.

Thankyou IA for your kind remarks and WF for my perhaps future indulgence in a IFM,

Ive read with interest the posts leading up to an IFM and the aftermath, seems there was a problem with the last one, which was aired on here, and i think there should be guidelines put into effect,

For instance, 1 box [12bottles] of beer or 6 bottles and 1 bottle of Regency, plus donate food to the value of 500bht, so you get a good day/night for 1kbht, accomodation extra of course,,,

As for going to an AG place and listening to Tinglish for an afternoon, i really dont think that would work, as you all know, there is better info on the Interweb, and in your own time,,and you want to chat together since your last meeting, So the "home" party is much better, by all means order Pizza or something for the evening meal, good idea,,

Im sorry if what i posted before has offended anyone, we all have our offdays living fulltime in Thailand,

Thankyou, Lickey.

Lickey darling Sticks & stones etc.

" my theory" that you misquote, is actually a very well known Yorkshire saying but as you know so many "Yorkshire folk" I assume you will have heard it before.

I'm puzzled, if you re-read your own post how can I be full of BS seeing I am a 100% born and bred Yorkshireman.

Please re-read all my posts, If you find some BS send it to IA he'll know what to do with it.

Grimley--nothing but the truth--Bob

To all the others, especially the ones who ate my pies at Bergens in Feb, I plan to return in April bearing more Pies -- Bob

How did I get caught up in this?

Lickey, I have to say I doubt I have ever met anyone as "careful" with the truth as Bob. Get your teeth stuck into one of his pies instead.

Bob, you Yorkshire terrier you, bet the washing is dry already.
