Inspector explains the reason behind the steam rising from the ground

PATTAYA: -- In Huay Yai, South of Pattaya steam flushed from what were thought to be newly discovered Hot Springs

Residents of a small housing project in Huay Yai were amazed that the land around their rented rooms was getting hotter and hotter until they could feel it with their feet as they walked around. The heat, in the past few weeks, spread to an area encircling their rooms and reaching 2 metres out from the concrete slab.

Interviewing the puzzled Landlady, 60 year old Mrs. Kamjai, she explained that she had decided that building rooms to rent on her farm field would give her a nice little income for her retirement, she called in local builders who, by the looks of the rooms, finished the job in a flash.

When the ground started to heat up she first thought it might be a natural hot spring or, worse, as a result of the landfill she had had added to level out what had once been a hollow dip. Her tenants were even more concerned and finally one of them was allowed to crack open the thin concrete slab upon which the rooms are built, and dig a hole 2 feet deep in the ground beneath.

Hot Spring or Hot Wiring at Pattaya Village?

PATTAYA: -- Occupiers of a row of rented apartments in Huay Yai Village, located on the southern outskirts of Pattaya reported the possible discovery of a geothermal hole situated at the front of one of the apartments on Wednesday afternoon.

Although highly unlikely, officials from the Pollution Control Department, the Department of Natural Resources & the Environment along with Huay Yai Municipal Officers led by the Mayor of Hua Yai made their way to the block of rooms to see for themselves the hole which had been created by locals to uncover the hot undersoil which was producing steam.

A thermometer recorded a temperature of 50◦c inside the hole and a demonstration involving a Chicken egg took place whereby it was cooked and ready to be consumed in under 20 minutes after being placed inside the hole.

Checks were made and an explanation was given by officials who blamed poor installation of electrics and the rise in the water table due to recent rains.

made me think of this....

So she got a free spa thrown in. Should make the place attractive once she floods the whole having enlarged it, put in an island, plants, a tiled dolphin and some sun lounges. The rental income will surely increase.

Does anybody know the name of the builders? I'm wanting a house extension done over a swamp, below some electricity pylons, on a former chemical dump site, behind a military shooting range just next to an armaments dump site.

plenty of those on soi 6

...she had decided that building rooms to rent on her farm field would give her a nice little income for her retirement,...
...she called in local builders...

This article should be about dumb ass contractors who operate illegally, and the dumb ass Thais who contract them to fuc_k up the environment, and the law-abiding people who live in it, by avoiding all safety and environmental standards needed for pre-construction. They are corner-cutting chimps who build crap!

It is only due to the fact that this consequent event reached their dormant, single synapse conscious level that they bothered to do anything about it (only to save face more than likely). Had it not, then the world could go to hell and they would not have ever considered the consequences of their actions and subsequently gone on about their business. That is the Thai way; there is no emergency or crisis until it happens.

Thank you for posting this sir!

Maybe Pattaya will reinvent itself as a thereputic spa resort - and we'll get all the movie stars and rockers coming over to dry out. Could be the new chic place to be seen.

The inspector checked the temperature of the hole, and his thermometer registered over 50 degrees centigrade. One local suggested cracking an egg into it to see if it would cook. They did, and it duly congealed...

thus confirming that 50 degrees centigrade is enough to cook an egg and that locals are morons. Later, another local suggested heating up water to see if his Nescafe 3-in-1 would dissolve in it. Eventually, people were coming in droves to see what kinds of things they could cook on the mysterious 50 degree hole. At the end of the day they concluded that only things that cook at or below 50 degrees would actually cook on the 50 degree hole. The findings were published in a major scientific journal. crazy.gif

Actually, I just looked it up and it takes about 70 degrees to cook an egg.

Looks like she was already thinking of how she would spend the millions that she was about to make! Filling in a dump, to build a house on, tit.
