Rimmer
24 hour Police Checkpoints in-place until Sunday around Pattaya PATTAYA:--24 Hour Police Checkpoints are now in place on all the main routes out of Pattaya in accordance with orders from the Ministry of the Interior to prevent large groups and others, who may be armed, from travelling to the anti-government and pro-government rallies which are expected to take place in Bangkok on Sunday. Although the anti-government group, known as Pitak Siam, promised on Friday that the rally will be peaceful, the Thai Government in conjunction with the Police are taking no chances and have ordered the checkpoints to remain in place until Sunday. They are situated throughout Chonburi Province and other surrounding provinces and are expected to drastically increase journey times for motorists over the weekend. OMGImInPattaya
What, so peaceful freedom of expression and assembly have now been curtailed in the "land of the free"? Just glad Barry has come and gone and doesn't have to be a part of Thailand's sham democracy.

Just glad Barry has come and gone and doesn't have to be a part of Thailand's sham democracy. What perhaps starts out as a peaceful protest seldom remains that way if left unchecked - as recent history will show. The more checkpoints the better i say! besth
Went through one check point today, didn't even have to stop, just slow down. Probably added 2 or 3 minutes to my trip. They were definitely not looking for excuses for tea money. If that is as bad as it gets, can live with it.
petercool
The whole point of the check points is to try and ensure peaceful assembly without weapons. Can't see that as curtailing anyone's freedom - if they are law abiding.
