Rally leaders face treason accusations

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A Pheu Thai Party MP yesterday lodged a police complaint accusing Pitak Siam group leaders of treason in connection with Saturday's anti-government rally

Pheu Thai Party MP Singthong Buachum accused Pitak Siam group leader General Boonlert Kaewprasit and five others - Squadron Leader Prasong Soonsiri, General Pathompong Kesornsuk, Kaewsan Atibhodi, Samdin Lertbut and Tul Sitthisomwong - of treason in accordance with the Internal Security Act 2008.

He also submitted evidence to officers at Dusit Police Station including seven samples of documents, CDs and pictures he obtained from websites and cameras of people present at the scene, and from the media.

Meanwhile, Karom Polpornklang, a lawyer for the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship, also lodged a complaint with police at the same station accusing Boonlert, Pathompong, Prasong, Air Marshal Watchara Ruethakani, General Nattanai Permsab, Thaikorn Polsuwan and Sub-Lt Saemdin Lertbut of violating Article 113, Article 80 and Article 116 of the Criminal Code. The lawyer alleged they attempted to bring down the government by calling on the military to oust it. He also submitted evidence including documents and CDs.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said police would handle the cases without discrimination. All suspects who had been arrested have been released without bail.

Chalerm said the Internal Security Act (ISA) is expected to be lifted today.

Meanwhile, police pressed an additional charge against Somsamai Nipaji, 58, the driver of a truck that allegedly ran through a barricade and hit police officers.

Somsamai was released on Bt50,000 bail. He was charged with violating the ISA and resisting arrest.

Scientific Crime Detection officials collected evidence allegedly found in Somsamai's truck. It included CDs, a water bottle and metal pieces that looked like parts of tear-gas canisters.

Police yesterday lodged three separate suits against 127 suspects accused of violating the ISA at the Dusit District Court. The three suits comprised three different groups of 97, 16 and 14 people who were not present at the court and have been released on bail. Police will file suits after five days against another 10 suspects who are minors.

Chalerm said the Internal Security Act (ISA) is expected to be lifted today.

Can someone please take the drink out of his hand and tell him it was already lifted yesterday?

.

It is probably exactly what he said when he was asked yesterday unless he was giving interviews in the small hours this morning.

And so we now see the attempt to silence forever any dissent or alternative viewpoint. Be warned everyone, the single party agenda moves on and if the Fugitive abroad loses a grip on that he loses Thailand. Far far more treasonous for Thaksin's son to say 'My Father will be the first President of Thailand'! Yikes, how did he get away with that one, especially while he said it to a policeman out the window of his car, which he was driving whilst drunk.

The one party republic agenda continues and progresses insidiously. I wonder if Thais are ever taught at school, in biology, one of the lessons about the frog! If you drop a frog into a pan of boiling water it will jump back out immediately, however, if you put a frog into a pan of cold water and then slowly bring the water to the boil, the frog will remain there, totally unaware of its dangerous predicament until it meets its demise!

Love this quote ... "Chalerm Yoobamrung said police would handle the cases without discrimination"

Which means the exact opposite. Usually with extreme prejudice if Chalerm has anything to do with it.

Brilliant piece of detective work - "evidence". A driver who listens to CD's, has water to slake his thirst and pieces of tear gas canisters, probably what pissed him off enough to drive his truck into the barricade in the first place. Remember constable plod, Police fired first!

The General and his colleauges shouldnt have too much to worry about. After all, the prisons here are bursting at the seams with low occupancy rates with all of the other top end criminals, that have not either been charged, or gaoled.

It will just tie up resources for a "feel good" for the govt, and take away those folks from other priorities, which are.....................i'll get back to you on that when i figure it out.

So quick to jump on any perceived wrong you can... exactly who's been drinking Buchholz?!

Clearly this statement was made yesterday, so he was quite correct in what he said. Look at the time of the OP, do you really think Chalerm was up giving interviews hours before 5:56 in the morning, giving the Nation time to type it up and get it to press...?

We really have to thank the government and their main party MPs for the reconciliatory approach to Pitak Siam. First 137 protesters released without bail (but after having been charged) and now this.

^ $20 ferangred:

'when TV finest believe them to be released without charge'. I'm in a good mood this morning but I still find it difficult to include our dear member ferangred in the group of 'finest'. Mind you he wrote

"I'm guessing you are about to post a congratulatory message to the current Government and the police, for putting reconciliation first rather than dragging them through the court system and furthering the divide?"

If I was a betting man, I would take short odds that the PTP MP was both a party list appointee, and a redshirt with outstanding charges.

Because the universe may not be infinite, but human stupidity certainly is.

Why can't they just be content that the protest fizzled out and they went home?

Because reconciliation first demands that you conquer, defeat and humiliate your opponents, right?

Strange trait isn't it.

Sinking the boot in I think it's called. They are pretty good at that here I have noticed.

For the only time in my life I must admit to being greatly impressed by the efficiency and rapid reaction by which the police have processed all those arrested. Copious information and evidence collected and all processed in record time. Pity they could not have done the same in the Red Bull driver case.

I will try to overcome my deficient writing skills and English usage. I am from Texas.

That certainly explains a great deal. Just a suggestion that those living in glass houses refrain from throwing rocks...

They should be careful where they go with these treason charges. As ye sow, so shall ye reap.

Indeed. Too many sheep followers forget that the reds were calling for the overthrow of a legitimate government in 2010

What legitimate government? certainly not the Thai one!
