I will be applying for a visa to Oz for my GF in a few months once all the prepartaion is gathered together. For all those who are or have been through the process, you'll know that getting your Thai GF or wife into Oz is no easy and simple thing. Lots of evidence, patience, time and convincing needs to be executed. I read all the time on TV about the horros and problems one faces when trying to go about this exercise.

But get this. A few weeks ago my cousin in Oz just got his American GF (not fiance or wife) in for good. How long and what did it take you might ask? Sweet F...all!!

They applied for her visa on the 20th of Dec. She had her interview on the 4th January (which incidently went so badly she was crying for fear of giving such a bad performance). And she was accepted on 12th of January. In total a whole 3.5 weeks from application to acceptance.

By now your saying "yes but she was American, she has money, she has this that etc....."....NO!

They have been together barely a year and are nothing more than a boyfriend and girlfriend, have never lived together outside of her parents house, she only has a school education, he has never had a full time job, 23 and 24 years old, evidence of a genuine and ongoing relationship barely acceptable outside of a few photos. In total their evidence amounted to JACKSH.T! The one thing they did need was for his dad (my uncle) to be assurance of support.

Has anyone ever got their Thai GF a visa in 3 weeks with so little to go by?

Just goes to show that fascist Australia does think that all Thai gals are hookers or going to do a runner!

And Australia say their not racist!

It is because she is American indeed....

People from some countries will find it easier to get a visa to come here...

the things that work in her favour are;

She comes from a country with an equal standard of living and equal or better economic status.

She comes from a country that has a strong alliance with Oz

And yes, she comes from a country that doesnt have a record of girls being put into prostituition here and Americans would be considered to be less of a risk for doing a runner.

She already speaks English and is probably better educated than most Thai's....this means that her chances of employment in Oz is greatly enhanced thus being less of a burden on the taxpayer.

Is it racist??.....yes it is....who is to blame??....the snakeheads and people who have abused the system previously.

I hear ya!!!

One of my friends met an American guy online. He is an online clairvoyant no less and she went to visit him. She then continued to go on three 90 day visa waivers in a row - with only two weeks back in the UK inbetween. Then she met some other guy and decided they were going to get married and so she decided to go for a fourth visa waiver - fourth in 13 months! Well the fourth time they took her aside, searched her luggage and found a fiance visa application (she had said she was just coming as a tourist) and wait for it - loads of love letter from the original guy (the clairvoyant). So needless to say they sent her back on the first plane to blighty after giving her a dressing down and making it clear that they were going to inform the US Embassy in London what she was up to with regards to cheating on her 'fiance'.

So here we are a few months down the line and she is going for her interview and I am thinking there is no waaaaaayyyy she is going to get this. What do you think - issued on the day with a lovely 'welcome to America' speech thrown in at the end!!

Unreal!!! Best bit being I have now found out the 'fiance' was all a cover up for the original guy who supposidly hasn't paid tax in years and thiks he has a warrant out for him - so clealry he could not be her sponsor!!

Who says only Thais play the system and economic english speaking 'equals' do not!!!! :o

While I do agree with what you've said, a process is still a process. My previous spouse, a US citizen, got her spouse visa in 4 months, and we had substantial evidence of our relationship, having been married and living together for 7 years. Alot of the apps thru the BKK mission also take about 4 months. It's all those bastards that abused the system, that the good people have to suffer for.

What pisses me off the most is that you'd think that in this electronic day and age the process would be streamlined and they'd have doing the checks and getting the info down pat by now. We're not in the age of having to wait for mail when things can be sent in the blink of an eye electronically. I understand sheer volumes etc, but still, for the amount of $ we throw at these people if there's work to do then hire more people! It's apalling... :o

Dave,

Let me tell a true story about the US and Australia.

In January 1968 the US and Australia governments come to an agreement which allowed US military personnel in Vietnam to take a 7 day R&R from Vietnam to Sydney, Austrailia.

Sounded simple enough.

However, here were the qualification factors that determined if the US military person was elgible to take R&R in Sydney. Australia set the conditions and the US agreed.

1. Whites only. Asians and blacks were not elgible.

2. The person had to have the military rank of Major or above.

3. Short arm inspections were required prior to boarding the airplane.

Additionally,

all flights were scheduled to arrive in Sydney and depart from Sydney after midnight and prior to daylight.

Once the airplane landed, everyone was put on buses with the windows blacked out and driven to a specific hotel (I cannot recall the name of the hotel) in downtown Sydney.

Everyone was provided with a "loaner" suit, a pair of shoes, and socks.

Everyone was provided with a locker and padlock to lock-up their military uniform and shoes.

Each person was given the name of the hotel and room keys where they were pre-booked.

Each person was given transportation to their designated hotel.

I doubt that where I stayed is still there but it was called "Top of the Cross Hotel."

Unbelievable but true!
