Hi there,

I was just telling my fiance exactely what process we will have to go through to get married this month and how many days it should take us in bangkok etc. etc. explaining details about the u.s embassey and proving i'm not married and my employment in the u.s and my contacts in the u.s etc. etc.

He brought up a great point that I can't believe i had stupidly overlooked!!! I'm canadian!!!!!! :o

o.k so now what do I do? I live in the u.s, my family and business are in the u.s, I only have one aunt in canada now, and have never paid taxes there. I've been a permanent resident for 37 years. Probably asking why I'm not a U.S citizen. I've been stubborn throughout my 30's because I totally disagree with the current government fiascos and refuse to '"join the club" until it can be somthing I'm proud of!!!

Anyway, how do I go about getting married now?

Thanks for your help.

As you hold a Canadian passport you must apply to that Embassy for your

declaration that you are not married.

I do not think you have to be paying taxes or anything like that.

Give the Embassy a call and check what they need.

It is probably very simple.

It was with the British Embassy.

Then get the document translated, and notorised by the Thai MFA.

How will your new husband get his Green Card to join you in the USA?

Thank you for your quick reply to my post. I am still a bit confused because with the U.S embassey they want 2 contacts (not family members) income statements, address in the states, among other things. If canada asks me for any of that I have none of it in Canada, only an aunt and uncle there. So, do you think they would want my U.S info? Anyway, hopefully the canadian emabassy has a shorter line :.)

In reply to "how I will get my husband a green card" that too is a bit of a mess. Our home and business is set up in thailand. I have a retail store in Lake Tahoe that I open May - Oct. and then again over the Christmas holdiays. Right now I'm spending 6 months in Thailand and 6 months in the U.S. He has never been to america and we've been together 6 years. Sad but true! I'm very frustrated with the U.S visa laws. They are going to end up with no tourists at all if they keep tightening laws! We are applying (have appt. April 27th) with the U.S embassey for a visitor visa for this summer. (although I'm not optimistic with our chances) Pocky (my fiance) would never be interested in a green card as the laws state you can never stay out of the U.S longer than 6 months or you lose it. We are not interested in American citizenship for him, although I will get mine if it means it's the only way to get him a visitor visa. He is a very proud thai national and loves his country as do I, we would never really be interested in more than a tourist visa as our plan is to buy land and build a home in thailand. The U.S is very conceited in thinking that everyone under the sun wants to live there!!! As the U.S visa rules state he needs to qualify on his own for a visitor visa so I'm not sure if it will make a difference if his wife is canadian with a green card or american. What does the forum think about that? All seems a bit messy and frustrating to me. Any and all guidance is very appreciated at this point! There's been many sad lonely nights in the last 6 years at home by myself in America when I've been ready to write to Oprah!!! :o

:o Hi, Sorry can't offer advice, I'm a Brit married to a Thai girl, but I hope your marriage goes well, I certainly have never regretted mine. As they say "Love conquers all", don't let 'em get you down, I'm sure that things will work out. good Luck to you both. :D

I see at least two potential problems with a vistor's visa for your spouse that you should be prepared to counter.

1. The US Embassy may question his reason to return because you are a US green card holder.

2. The US Immigration may use his vistor's status as a sign that you have abandoned your permanent resident status.

Hello I was reading your story and thought that you may have some information that might help me. I am with a Thai woman now and plan on marrying her in December. I am now working in Iraq and going on my second year over here as a contractor so I have a pretty good income. I am going to marry her in Thailand. I am worried about how much in need to save up before accutally moving to Thailand. We plan to stay near her family which is away from alot of the tourist areas. Also I am still worried about getting the right visa for me stay in Thailand but work in Iraq. I was just hoping that you might have some information that might be helpful to me...

Thanks

Matt
