Chain Breaking / Joining Tool

Featured Replies

For that size chain the pins still need to be ground off or your breaker will fail. So why not get a grinder and a punch. The job is less then 2 minutes. Joining can be done with a clip style master link.

Kawasaki service manual emphasizes: "never ever use clip style link"

Use a clip type link on a higher powered bike at your own risk as if it ever breaks the results are usually catastrophic.

There is a very good reason why a clip type link is not used, and if the manufacturers could do it they would

I could not find a good chain tool in Thailand and ended up importing a RK one. Even with a quality tool such as the RK, is is a good idea on larger (530 +?) chains to grind the head off the rivet rather than use brute force with the tool and punch it out

I am not sure what bike the manual is referring to. My dtracker came with a clip new from the factory. The kawasaki replacement chains come with a clip and if you buy a kawasaki master link it has a clip.

It is a HP and torque issue. The 250 does not have a lot of power and the clip is fine. Not so for something with more power

This is the tool recommended in the service manual:

http://www.amazon.co...g/dp/B001KOIOBM

Not exactly cheap for what it is...

But you get what you pay for as they say thumbsup.gif

looking at the amazon reviews its not exactly perfect.

The three reviews I just read on there says it does what it it's meant to do

After 4 uses I broke the U shaped holder.

your tool is useless and you will not be able to return it. not even under warranty cause how do you prove it should not have happened. You can't even buy a replacement U shaped holder.. D.I.D. will not sell that separate.

I ended up borrowing a RK CHAIN BREAKER / PRESS-FIT & RIVET TOOL #UCT4060 and this worked much better. I would recommend buying this product instead.

I didn't even get to finish the rivet job before it broke. The bottom piece snapped right in the middle of the hole. I was not even applying much force to it when it happen. I was disappointed to have spent over 100 bucks to have it break the first time I used it.

Once again:

Buy the RK tool and if you are determined to break large chains without grinding, but a spare punch pin

Nothing will pi$$ you off quicker than a cheap tool
