webfact Posted January 4, 2013 Share Posted January 4, 2013 Over 2,000 people arrested on drug and gun charges during New Year BANGKOK, 4 January 2013 (NNT) – More than 2,000 cases of drug smuggling and gun possession have been found in Bangkok during the New Year. According to Metropolitan Police Bureau Chief Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Thoopkrajang, over 280 spots around Bangkok were closely monitored by the police during December 21st, 2012 to January 2nd, 2013. Nearly 2,200 culprits were arrested over drug and gun charges, which can be broken down into 314 cases of drug selling, 534 on drug possession, 1,300 on drug taking, and 28 on gun possession. Evidences that the suspects carried during the arrests include 11,000 pills of methamphetamine, 930 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), 26 packs of marihuana, 32 guns, 122 ammunitions, and 1 grenade. The Metropolitan Police chief also expressed his appreciation to those policemen who had worked throughout the New Year holidays and performed a very fine job. The 534 on drug possession and 1,300 on drug taking are not considered serious if it is a first offense and won;t be sentenced to any prison time (if they plead guilty) though some might spend a few days in jail. This is the minister who has the definitive word on everything and Yes cleaning up drugs was to be his personal crusade.
