Its a never ending source of irritation to me that though there are backpackers hostels all over bangkok none exist anywere near the joh sarn area

Any recommedations for safe, secure hotels or guests houses in said area for between 300 and 400 baht hopefully offering sports channels in the room and air con

Hmmm....have you been to KSR and looked around in person? I have friends who stay there on a regular basis for this price.

I think this topic is best over in the travel forum. Topic Moved.

Triple your price and you get everything you want. No advance booking. Accommodation is so important and especially while travelling.

I suggest to safe money on other things.thumbsup.gif

I also suggest avoiding KSR altogether.wink.png

your irritation is completely unfounded and more sounds of dumbness.

All around KSR are dozens-100s of cheap places- the really cheap ones are of course, why even bother, NOT on the www. But even on wellknown hoStel bookings sites, like h-bookers or h-world are dozens of around KSR places- that maybe advertsie to be a hoStel or not. BTW; do make yourself very familiair with what a real hoStel is to be-its not just cheap placetosleep. For this daft simple reason, hoStels have by tradition been very scarce in TH-untill some wisskind started to list them as such and prey on the unknowing young farang, who all tend to believe that if its not on the www-it surely cannot exist and now offer ''cheap'' dormbeds at prices much higher as the old-syle KSR classics; single rooms, looking like prison cells,.

Now that LP/TT is firmly locked, it seems out of their anxiety these youngsters start to peruse other sites that google may spew out. Again wrong: this TV is mainly aimed at fat bekpek-hating old expats, unable to survive without a beerbottle in 1 hand and a TG in the other. Most Qs about KSW were met with hostile answers-go to Sukhumvit was the inevtiable response.

SO; sites like travelfish virtualtourist or even khaosanroad (I believe now only on facebook-the medium where those youngsters seem unable to live 1 second without) are better suited to this type of adventure travel.

Hostels are popular among the dreadlock fraternity as they seem unable to strike up friendships unless sleeping with 20 other people.

Why Khaosan? There are much nicer (and more accessible) areas of Bangkok where you'll find budget hotels.

Sports channels (presumably you're talking non-Thai sports channels showing non-Thai sports) will be hard to find in real budget hotels I would have thought, whichever area you are staying.

I've visited bangkok around 10 times in the past 12 years yet have still to hear of a place in the koh sarn area remotely resembling a BACKPACKERS HOSTEL in the european sense(ie offering cheap dorm accomodation,a communal area with satelite tv for the english footy,a library of dvd's to watch, maybe even a guest kitchen were you can do your own cooking)

BACKPACKERS HOSTELS like this do indeed exist in bangkok and i stayed in a cracking one last year in silom(http://www.hostelboo.../bangkok/33163/) but the problem is the hostels i know about are about an hours bus ride(if you are lucky)from koh sarn

Hostels on the KSR? Really? When guest houses can be had for 120 baht why would you share a room in Bkk? Clearly my finger isn't on the pulse. In South American and Australia yes. Even Jakarta has a few, I have never seen a hostel on the KSR. I must be old??Hostels in Silom sure that's different. Things are more expensive in that part of town, but the KSR?? These are surely few and far between. Edited by angsta

While hostels might not be on KSR itself, they are certainly in that area. Took me a minute to find one with google.

From a travel forum I used to frequent, it is plain that many bagpackers actually want to stay in a dorm room, rather than a room by themselves. Strange but true.

On the last line that me to a tee....can you send a link to any BACKPACKERS HOSTEL you know of in the general area of koh sarn rd(say a 2 or 3 mile radius)
