คุฌตะลึง ... 'Mr Surprising'? Does this sound like a credible Thai nickname given to a foreigner?

A Thai can give you any nickname they choose, some might make no sense to us, but the Thais understand.

BTW, your spelling is wrong, as noted by another poster, ทะลึ่ง is what you want.

For the poster who mentioned uncle, ลุง, note the different vowel (one above the lor ling, the other below), giving a different sound.

If a girl says it to you she probaly means you are a bit naughty in a very playfull and positive way.

Good explanation.

A real example with my girl friend (wife now) sometime after we first met. She and her friends were talking about under wear and colors. Asked me what color underwear I liked and I blurted out สีใส. Yep, got a ทะลึ่ง for that. biggrin.png

Means 'playful'. Don't worry, not negative at all.

The word ทะลึ่ง most definitely can have a negative meaning. For example, if a parent refers to a child as ทะลึ่ง, it means they are being disrespectful and may well precede a slap.

Well played. I love this concept - write some really bad transliteration, lead readers to believe it means one thing, then slam them with the actual Thai spelling, I like your style :)

In general, I wouldn't sweat it. Chances are you're hearing it from friends, perhaps - I'll even hazard a guess - when you're out at the local watering hole to meet-up with friends. In this atmosphere, the meaning I'd take from it is a teasing laugh-with-you sort of nickname that straddles the line between funny and naughty. I'd be perfectly happy to be called that myself.
