BANGKOK: -- The Interior Ministry will join hands with Bangkok City Hall and police to relocate vendors and homeless people from the banks of Klong Lod, in a bid to boost tourism in Bangkok.

Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan told a House meeting that he would meet with City Hall executives on Monday to discuss a plan to tidy up historical Ratanakosin Island in order to attract more tourists. He was responding MPs' questions about the problem of Ratanakosin's homeless people.

Charupong said that after Sanam Luang had been renovated, homeless people had moved from there to the banks of Klong Lod in front of the Interior Ministry.

"I will tell City Hall to take charge of putting the historical areas and tourist sites on Ratanakosin Island in order," Charupong told the House meeting.

He said he would cooperate with the Social Development and Human Security Ministry and City Hall in moves to persuade the vendors to move to other areas.

Move them to boost tourism?

Yeah...now imagine, tourists would be confronted with a reality of poverty in this country!

Better move them away- out of sight, out of mind!

There is a massive queue of people around the world who have been waiting for eons for this area to be cleared. This is the final part in Yingluck's master plan to have trillions of tourists visiting miracle Thailand to eat all the rice.

Well done PTP - great job.

Soi dogs next? There's a great market for the scabby mutts in Vietnam. (Muttley - keep your head down mate).

The stench of urine in the morning is just awful in that area.

I don't see how these homeless can be removed unless thay give them some other accomodation though. I guess they will be back. I doubt they will get any assistance and many of these people are quite old.

....no word on helping the downtrodden.....just getting rid of them.....to look better....and rake in more dough....

Yes, that's right folks. Round up these dirty, pesky, smelly squatters and pack 'em off to some vacant area away from the prying eyes of tourists and upstanding citizens.

No problem feeding them as there's a mountain of rice and thousands of dogs available. "Khao Phat maa" Dog fried rice.

Done and dusted.

Excuse me, but these people are a tourist attraction.. just maybe not the kind the current govt. wants. I like walking down through there just to look. Maybe they should move them down to Yala.. whistling.gif out of sight, out of mind...

I would rather see the people that want to move them get moved down to Yala.
