Child Under 2, Free Travel Or Not?

Featured Replies

I always assumed a child under 2 travels free. Ive looked on Singapore Airs site, doesnt say but seems to charge $100 plus tax which takes it to approx $600. So for the price they charge does baby get a seat?

Can someone clear this up for me please. What happens?

Thanks!

Under 2 or "infants" is usually free for the "seat" as it is assummed they don't have a seat and sit on the parent's knee.

However, they often still have to pay taxes and fuel charges etc. In recent years, taxes and fuel charges have risen significantly. So while the "ticket" or :seat" is free, all the add ons are not.

Same as with air miles. The ticket is free if you have enough air miles, but the taxes and surchages are often a siginificant part of the cost now.

Next step you'll find, is that over 2 they are classified as a "child". Basic fare is often 50% of the adult fare. However, when all the taxes and fuel charges are taken into consideration, the child ticket comes out more like 75% of the adult ticket all in cost :)
