I am interested in working in Thailand. I am a structural engineer and would like to work in a related field. Unfortunately this profession is on the list of professions prohibited to foreigners.

"List Annexed to the Royal Decree Naming Occupations and Professions Prohibited to Foreigners, B.E. 2522 (1979) ...

29. Engineering work as a branch of civil engineering, when concerned with design and calculation, establishing systems, research, planning, testing, overseeing construction, or advising; exceptions are permitted when such work requires special expertise.

30. Architecture and working in the fields of design, drawing scale models, price-bidding, supervising construction or advising. "

Is there any way of working around this legally? What if I we're employed by a foreign company that has a contract in Thailand? What’s up with "exceptions are permitted when such work requires special expertise"?

Anyone have any advice or know where I can find out more about this topic?

Your job title can be “Consultant of Structural Engineering.” We guarantee you can get a wp and be legal.

About that...how hard is it to circumwent the very strict rules regarding prohibited work?

Not withstanding that I have seen at LOT of websites openly declearing their staff online, amongst them one or several farangs, all with companies in areas supposedly off limits...

I've seen British photographers working in Bangkok...How did they get a work permit?

I believe that's also an occupation that's prohibited... :o

I'm a structural engineering and owned my own firm here in the US. My question is

I and my wife (thai/american architect) want to go back to thailand and either develop/build our own resort or exclusive housing development.

What would be a job title on the work permit for me then?...or can I even do this kind of work at all?
