danone
pondering thai society after thaksin: will his "achievements" be rolled back? - no more early closing hours in the nightlife? even jakarta is bustling now compared to bangkok. - gasoline again available around the clock? - booze in stores again available around the clock? - no more cultural monitoring neo-taliban who prohibited books such as "bangkok inside out", censored nipples and banned certain love songs? what else did we lose under thaksin? danone
what else did we lose under thaksin? Your sense of what matters in life, or so it would seem. you certainly got a point with your comment - and I guess you have never been stuck after midnight on a highway not being able to refill the gasoline. there are many other freedoms slowly disappearing under this government. I mentioned the obvious ones which are just a nuisance and nothing constructive or essential for the betterment of society.

Ricardo
A lot of the "fun" in life has gone.I do hope Thailand can roll the clock back on some levels. I'd certainly agree that their seems to be less 'sanuk' in Thailand, not that I go out boozing or clubbing anymore anyway, wonder what Thais own experience is ? All those jokes about Thailand being Asia's part-time tourist-destination have a little bit of truth in them.

samran
Apart from the petrol decisions, things still seem not to have changed. - Still fat ugly blokes on the beaches wearing their speedos. - Pattaya still exists. - Fat bald ugly blokes walking down suhumvit with no shirts (or English football jersey - take your pick) looking so ###### sexy.....not - Same fat ugly bloke passed out on same said sukhumvit footpath at 1am. English jersey being used as a pillow.
