BANGKOK: -- Five senior police have been abruptly transferred from two stations in Bangkok after more than 100 commandos rounded up over 300 gamblers from dens in Phra Khanong and Watthana districts on Saturday night.

Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, commissioner of Metropolitan Police, said yesterday that officers from Klong Tan and Bang Na stations were sent on temporary duty outside their precincts for 30 days to facilitate investigations.

He is also considering punishing Pol Maj Gen Krit Piakaew, head of Metropolitan Police Division 5, which oversees the two police stations, for failing to comply with National Police chief Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew's order to bust all underground casinos.

The three dens were Mae Ho on Soi Pridi Panomyong off Sukhumvit 71, an unnamed den on Soi Pho Kaew and Uan in Bang Na.

The suspects were detained at Klong Tan and Thong Lor police stations and would be charged at Phra Khanong District Court today. Police seized several million baht in cash, gambling paraphernalia, cards and chips from Mae Ho den.

Amnuay Termsri, 45, allegedly owns the house used to operate a den and Chalong Thaiulek, 54, is allegedly a punter.

Pol Col Kanchon Intararom, superintendent of Bang Na Police Station, said his police raided three dens and nabbed 117 gamblers, consisting of 92 gamblers from Udom Suk Soi 23, 10 from Soi Chalermprakiat 14 and 17 from Soi La Salle.

None of them was allowed to be released on bail.

Again, these owners should know that tea money keeps you safe. Somebody didn't pay up!

Sounds like they are transferring the BIB who were collecting the tea money so there will be no fingers pointed at them.

And effectively the five senior police get a 30 day vacation.

It should not be destroyed at scene as it may be needed in any subsequent court case then destroyed by court order but I know what you mean - needed elsewhere ! Once again we read " transferred ", " inactive posts " and the like but never suspended pending disciplinary proceedings. I suppose everybody has too much on everybody else and nobody comes too hard as one day they might want a similar consideration when they are caught with their fingers in the tills

Ah, those refreshing early morning jokes.

What the police did was "kill the chicken to scare the monkeys". They busted two gambling dens for the lower classes which were apparently a bit thrifty with the tea money. And it is safe to assume that the equipment will be handed back after the owners did "repent". The Hiso den opposite the Chaophya Hospital, where fat Benz and Beemers are waved past the massive 6 Meter high steel gates by the 24/7 guards is "off limits" for such kind of "show of force", as it btw is run by the police themselves. They only closed down the "Police News Office" guarding the entrance to the den 2 years ago as it became too obvious. All that is left is the police dummy at the soi entrance pointing the way in and a mobile "no parking" sign labelled "Police News Office".

If you are interested in a little game any local taxi driver can take you there, just ask.

Oh it has one, but it is wholly corrupt, incompetent and dare I say it... Criminal.

Thai culture and society created this monster, it was no accident. It thrives under the mai bpen rai culture of ignorance, a lack of responsibilty, morals and ethics and gets rich off the greed and malfeasance of the ordinary citizen.

There is no investigative policing here; just the usual culture of ham fisted, incompetent bullying that preys on the weak and emboldens the cretins in positions of power.

Any person who gives two jots about this country or its people should be sickened and embarrassed by the police here.

Yet again, just another indictment as to the hopelessness of this country. The Royal Thai Police as are bad as it gets and their activities are known to all and sundrie and yet they go unpunnished in a malignant society which believes corruption is acceptable. Drown them all, they are a total disgrace. Administration and Government positions are riddled with senior staff who all learnt their basic feild craft while serving in the RTP. The police and the judicary are the most virulent cancers in this pathetic society and until this disease is surgicaly removed the Thai public will remain subjugated by these villians.

Sent to the "happy retirement home" I just wonder where this place is & how much it costs??

So let me get this straight. In Thailand if you kill someone

like that actor did, or if you torture a young Burmese girl, you simply

post bail and walk away. But god forbid, if you are caught gambling

at a underground casino and make the local police look bad, now no

I believe it's a post where you do nothing, have no clout and can't get get your nose in the trough. That's a major punishment here

Trasfer to desk, or to a different station while being investigated, is SOP (standard operating procedure) in my home country

in case of major crimes, suspension with or whithout pay depending on severity of the crime.

What struck me as odd, were the pictures of them carefully packing up the gaming tables,

as if they didnt want to damage something they wanted to use again lol

Sorta looked like pictures of midnight looters didnt they?
