Tharit: Thailand region's No 1 terror target
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tharit Pengdit Wednesday claimed Thailand ranked number one in the region in terms of being at risk of terrorist attack - and number five in the world - according to studies in England and the US.

Tharit cited a recent discussion with US FBI legal attache Daniel P Powers about Thailand being among top countries at risk because of its freedoms and its position as the region's hub of terrorist movements.

Nothing new here, the weak response from Thailand to be able to handle this sort of terror activity, over the years ,has made a laughing stock of their armed forces and Governments for the past thirty years and more so since 2002 and just down the road a major problem , two Muslim nations, one would be ranked at three. bah.gif

Corruption breeds contempt for others. Contempt breeds animosity. Animosity invariably leads to violence.

Of course there is the fact that ear medication, taken in copious quantities, will make you unsteady on your feel and prevents a coherency.

Hub of Terrorism - yes, it certainly has a ring to it.

An alternate source ranked Thailand 8th in 12/2012 for acts of terrorism, so in the space of four months it has climbed the ladder to 4th? The ranking was based upon the number of incidents, deaths, injured and the level of property damage. A quote below from the news source:

Thailand ranks top among the Southeast Asian countries, followed by the Philippines (No 10), Indonesia (29), Myanmar (33), Malaysia (90) and Cambodia (101)

Didn't Charlem say the other week there were no terrorist activity in Thailand?

he probably haven't heard of the "studies in England and the US." the op names as source.
Or Tarit contracted earwaxitis from Chalerm 555

Another official with a brain fart? Or this is a troll post. There are no studies from the US or the UK that a law enforcement or intelligence agency would pass on to this guy.

this guy has a name: US FBI legal attache Daniel P Powers

He said Thailand is on that list because of its freedoms and hubs of the movements.

Would love to know exactly what Daniel P Powers (Legal Attaché at U.S. Embassy Bangkok, Thailand. ex Assistant Section Chief at FBI Counterterrorism Division) is referring to when he mentions "freedoms" in Thailand and his suggested course of action.

it is boringly obvious what the americans think. It would be refreshing to see what the Chinese or Indians think now that they are world powers. They are not as pretentious as the americans to announce such nonsense.

Why dont you go find a link and share that with us. I you are so curious.

I think he means Democrats - 'terrorising' the government wink.png

The thought of the Yingluck Government being "terrorised" by the democrat party (democrats is such a misnomer) brings to mind that wonderful riposte by the UK Labour Chancellor that being attacked by the opposition MP Geoffery Howe, was,

" like being savaged by a dead sheep "

Obviously that worthy UK Labour Chancellor knew what (s)he was talking about. I'm not sure though that applies to k. Tharit our local terrorist level reporter.

I didn't mean for it to apply to the Head of the DSI, that's why I specifically mentioned the quote in relation to the Yingluck Government and the Democrat Party. Strange.
